Can we talk about how House MD used his cane on the wrong side for 8 whole seasons? If only he had a PT on the team! Let's get physical therapists the TV spotlight they deserve. #dudpthod

The 2022 season of Grey's Anatomy resulted in an increased association between qualities of courage and patient satisfaction with physicians.   What attributes do you envision for physical therapists portrayed in the media? (Perhaps the APTA core values? 👀) #dudpthod

@policy4pt In an article with APTA, you stated that PT is often "misunderstood and underappreciated" in healthcare settings. We agree! But, by incorporating accurate portrayals of PTs in popular media, we believe we can change this narrative! What are your thoughts? #dudpthod

@DukeHOD5 This is a great idea! We believe it would be great to have all the different specialties of PT represented on TV and in movies to increase public awareness of all the incredible work PTs do, including in pelvic health! #dudpthod

The APTA created the media corps to "serve as a resource for journalists who are working on stories that involve physical therapy practice, research, policy" and more. Click the link to learn more! #dudpthod

In addition to our amazing mentors, we have also had the support of other faculty from Duke's DPT program. Huge thank you to Dr. Rosie Canizares, Dr. Tiffany Adams, and Dr. Kelly Reynolds for co-sponsoring our motion🫶 #dudpthod

In season 4, episode 2 of Black Mirror, one of the main characters works as a physical therapist. We love seeing more representation of the profession on TV shows! If you've seen this episode, let us know how accurate you found this portrayal of the profession #dudpthod

If being a consultant for a PT character on a TV show was available as a CEU, would you do it? Tell us why below! @Duke_DPT @DukeRehab #dudpthod

with an average growth rate of 17% and an anticipated annual 15,000 jobs annually, developing accurate public perceptions of physical therapy would allow for patient engagement rates that compliment the ascending employment growth rates. #dudpthod

@DukeHOD2 You mention U.S. Airforce and UK providers in your main motion draft being able to administer corticosteroid injections. Do you know their protocols to maintain patient safety in the event of a complication? Is it realistic to implement across other settings in the US? #dudpthod

@DukeHOD9 This is a really interesting consideration! As a team focused on other's perceptions, we can see how the term "homeless" may create bias in people's minds. Using the term "unhoused" may prevent there being a more negative perception of these individuals as patients. #dudpthod

@DukeHOD7 When advocating for PT to be accurately represented in the media, it seems unrealistic to only show 1:1 care. We definitely see the value in 1:1 care but don't know how to strike the balance of advocating for it while accurately depicting PT as a profession. #dudpthod
