I've expanded on this thread in an article for the @uscnpm, auspiciously published on the 100th anniversary of the CCP, looking at Yan and Wang's arguments, the prospects for their policy recommendations, and where I agree/disagree! See:
The new FA issue on China has many excellent essays. I particularly enjoyed @yuenyuenang’s essay on the economic contours of China’s “Gilded Age.” However, the two contrasting essays by Chinese IR theory doyens Yan Xuetong and Wang Jisi were especially striking. Thread. 1/
