I do think Holland is a decent representation of latter day nerds- they have a community they are able to be apart of, and one really good friend. Still gets bullied by Flash. Since nerd culture has become mainstream, it’s tough to nail that archetype down now.

My favorite scene in the first one is when we meet Ben and May for the first time and you really believe they’ve spent their lives together. It’s very natural and subtle. I wish the MCU Spideys had more scenes like Peter and May having Thai food and just being in that moment.
Congratulations to Oda-sensei and all the amazing writers, the cast, the musicians, the advisors, the musicians, the artists and the whole crew at

ONE PIECE WILL BE GETTING A SECOND SEASON!
If they REALLY wanted to grab me with that Aladdin trailer, they should've included the guy who goes, "Sugared dates! Sugared dates and figs! Sugared dates and pistaaaaaachioooooos!"
I'm glad that society can now be classified into two groups: Zoomers, those who grew up watching Zoom on PBS; and Boomers, who like walking around saying, "Boom, baby! Boom boom, baby, boom boom!"
One Piece is good because there’s a character who is an evil cyborg Obelix who can transform into a Brachiosaur and launch his head and tail like he was a living fake can of mixed nuts that shoots springy snakes when you open it.
Shunsuke Kikuchi's work has been with me for about as long as I've been into anime, so his passing is a major bummer for me. My exposure to his work obviously started with Dragon Ball Z, but through the years he just kept appearing in things I liked! A thread of Kikuchi tracks.
It's going to be a good time. Catch your first glimpse of the new film, ONE PIECE STAMPEDE, in honor of the 20th Anniversary of

! Hits theaters in Japan on August 9, 2019!

Feels good to get to a place with week to week One Piece again where you don't know what the next island is gonna be. I think the last time was Punk Hazard?
It's interesting to revisit this moment from the end of DR. Morley is visible with the Revolutionaries, Ryokugyu has the same kind of hair as he does when we saw his silhouette a few chapters ago, and Doflamingo speaks of the Empty Throne.
I've had this on my mind since we recorded the pod a few weeks ago and needed to draw it. Starring Fre D. Flintstone and Trafalgarney D. Rubble Law. Never sorry.
Wano wasn’t perfect but it’s really awesome that One Piece became a totally different manga that was a love letter to jidaigeki films for about 4 years. What a comic.
One Piece Stampede was like taking all of your action figures and dumping them onto the carpet, then dumping all of your Legos onto your action figures, your mom telling you to clean them up, and then playing while cleaning up
I feel like folks get more critical of One Piece once they hit week to week because it’s tough to read a big overarching story in spurts when context that is supposed to hold it together seems so spread apart . But today’s chapter really solidifies that patience is golden.
I’ve probably showed this off before, but here’s a great Drum Island thermos from the Mugiwara store. Just like the arc it represents, it fuckin rules.
Spent a little time jotting down thoughts about the One Piece live action now that I’ve sat with it for a bit. My biggest issue is that there needs to be more emotional resonance, which I think is partly a writing issue.
The passing of Akira Toriyama has me a little shook. A total master of staging a comic and one of my first big artistic inspirations. He’s leaving behind a real legacy. I don’t really know what else to say right now.
Can we talk about the Noland/Calgara flashback for a sec?? To spend that amount of time on characters who don't even exist in the story's present time would normally be insane. But it happens and it's amazing. I think about it a lot.
When I worked at Hollywood Video, this was one of the movies we had that was “guaranteed” to be available when it was released. We had over 70 copies. Of The Pacifier.
