My story is a bit long, but I pay for the feature, so I might as well use it. I started smoking cigarettes at 16. Thought I could quit by 19 when I joined the military in boot camp. Boy, was I wrong! After many failed attempts at NRTs available, I always found myself purchasing a pack of cigarettes almost on auto pilot. I joined the military, and my craving for nicotine grew. I was smoking up to 1 1/2 ppd, AND dipping chewing tobacco. I had a couple more quit attempts with prescriptions and patches + gum and support. I started becoming a closet smoker, trying to hide my addiction. I felt like a failure. I came to the conclusion that I would just be a lifelong smoker and die a smoker. I quit trying to quit. Almost in a self-harm kinda way. After 10 years of smoking, in 2009, my first son was born. I decided that I needed to quit for him in order to not leave this planet while I was still a young father. I researched what was currently working for people, and it was e-cigarettes. Thanks, ecig forum! I purchased a starter kit, and when it arrived, I filled up the cartridge and gave it a shot. Wow. "This could really work," I thought. And it did infact work as I immediately stopped feeling the urge to light up a cigarette and inhale the smoke. I was content with the minty vape my 1st generation device produced. I unfortunately went back to smoking for another 2 years after a traumatic event. I smartened up and quit for good with better vape tech. Now, years later, I can say that it has been over a decade since I have smoked a combustible cigarette. Flavored nicotine vaping satisfies my urge to smoke, and I feel 200% healthier. My lungs are clear, as proven by annual exams and imaging at the VA. Nicotine vaping saved my life, and that is why I advocate and defend it. I want to help people who smoke save their own lives, too. Thanks for reading 😊

@ProtectSCKids @phil_w888 Is a teen taking 1 puff ever in their life, then never again hooked on nicotine? What are the current use numbers?

@ProtectSCKids I believe this number is a typo. You should check the actual numbers and double-check the math.

@KWardTV Well, they only surveyed 1000 of them. Don't know how one could reliably extrapolate that to the entire country. You could ask another 1000 and get a wildly different number.

@BurtMarion87368 Some people in public health focus more on stopping behaviors they don’t like than on following the science. They pick and choose data to support their activism. 👉PHINOs. Real public health should be rooted in unbiased, evidence-based decisions, not personal beliefs or agendas.
