Investing in education and employment for health workers is essential to achieve #HealthForAll. We welcome #India’s Finance Minister @nsitharaman’s commitment to invest in the education of an additional 75,000 medical students in the next 5 years. I call on other countries to follow suit and accelerate action.
Health infrastructure gets boost in #Budget2025: FM Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman announced a significant step toward expanding India's healthcare infrastructure. With an increase of over 1.1 lakh medical education seats in the last 10 years, the government is committed to adding 75,000 more seats in the next 5 years. Starting next year, 10,000 additional seats will be added, further strengthening India’s medical workforce and ensuring better healthcare services for all. #ViksitBharatBudget2025

A piece of good news in difficult times: @WHO and local health partners were able to partially resume #mpox vaccinations in Goma, #DRC, today. But the overall response continues to be severely impacted by the violence; patients are leaving the treatment centres out of fear for their lives, increasing the risk of transmission. Since the start of the violence, many health facilities have been forced to close and some have been looted. 3000 injured people and 800 deaths have been registered so far. WHO has brought in emergency supplies such as IV fluids, anaesthetics and antibiotics for 320 000 patients and treatment for 10 000 cholera patients. We are looking for ways to get more in as supplies are quickly running out. We call on all parties to ensure that health and humanitarian workers can safely reach people in need and that patients and health facilities are protected.

Had a productive discussion with @healthgovau Secretary Blair Comley on the strong #Australia- @WHO partnership for global health, importance of sustainable financing to support WHO’s life-saving work, and impact of the organization’s Transformation to modernize its operations and deliver #HealthForAll. We also agreed on the need to continue taking a science-based approach to helping people lead healthier lives, and how this can be supported by digital technology and integration of health data. I appreciate Mr Comley’s outcome-oriented approach to advancing public health and am confident his chairing of the upcoming 157th and 158th WHO Executive Board meetings will deliver positive results for the health and wellbeing of all. #EB156

Seven years ago @WHO warned: #AirPollution is the new tobacco. The simple act of breathing is killing 7 million people a year. This is inexcusable. The need to tackle air pollution has only become more important over time. We need #CleanAirNow for our health!

.@WHO stands with you in this fight.
World Cancer Day may be over, but the fight against cancer isn’t. Awareness, research and early detection save lives every single days. Let’s continue to educate ourselves, support those affected and push for better treatments. The battle continues, and so does our support.🎗
