Most animated shows aimed at adults are ugly, which feels like a slap in the face to the audience. To be appealing, I suppose, is to be trying too hard to please, and adults couldn't possibly be bothered to care about the artistry of cartoons. So disappointing.

I hate it when I am developing a new character and a few drawings in, I draw that *perfect* drawing of them and then I can never seem to match the spirit of that drawing because it was totally a happy accident and drawing is both joy and misery wrapped up in one messy experience.

These warmups were pretty early on, probably my first week or so of working on #StevenUniverseFuture. My Stevens were still looking really young, and I didn't know his shirt would be black instead of the film's blue. Still, fun drawings.

The continued downfall of Netflix animation is extremely sad. When I was on Battle Kitty and everything was revving up, there was so much promise and buzz in the air. We were all so excited to make something special. I kept telling myself to enjoy it while it lasted.

Healthy drawing tip: picking a brush that has no pressure sensitivity (like a simple hard round brush) when working rough means you won't press down hard with the goal of getting line weight variation, thus being much easier on your wrist. Encourages faster, sweeping strokes too!.

Kyle was a bad boss with a gigantic ego and no clear vision for his show. Working on Magiswords brought many lasting friendships, but also many tears and bouts of burnout. Heck of a first job. I hate that he caused so much pain. I'm glad he's not going to be doing that anymore.

"Homeworld Bound" was my final episode of SU Future. I know it's on the CN app, but I haven't watched it yet. I suspect it has changed a lot since I turned in the storyboard - sometimes that happens - and I'm excited to see what the team did with it after my time on the show.

Not having an animation industry job for four months has made living in LA an extremely fragile balancing act. I've learned a lot of lessons about how I can be smarter with my time and money and that is very valuable. That said, I'd love to be storyboarding again. Like, ASAP.🫤.
