Consciousness in the universe probably functions somewhat similar to a hive mind wherein individuals are basically nodes in a grander schema. See: "Public consciousness" the beliefs foundational to the public/society of which you and me are nodes in. I'm fairly sure we will learn this by creating AI as we have reverse engineered things like the camera from the human eye, so to we will reverse engineer consciousness by creating AI. You have "experts" contributing to public consciousness the way a specifically trained GPU cluster will contribute to ASI. Basically data centers will become big AI brains and there will be many nodes, many "experts" etc but there will be only one "public consciousness" mirroring the reality of consciousness in the cosmos. Hopefully AI will help us escape this neoliberal atomist-materialist age once and for all.
