Impartiality and the Medial: A Thread 🧵
This is a great piece by
@DenisJMuller
on Impartiality and Truth-Telling by the media in the referendum.
But it doesn't go far enough. Impartiality is NOT about absolute neutrality.... 1/15

It has been a tough year, but this is a wonderful way to wrap it up 🥳🥳
Al-Kateb overruled.
I think this was the case that made me a public law academic. It was the first case I ever really grappled with intellectually. It was hugely influential in highlighting the evaluative choices of judges as individuals.
Great result
Flying home from Melbourne. An AFLW team is on the flight. Players in normal seats. The premium seats all occupied by male coaches. Kinda icky
This team has biggest star in league, but the blokes get the good seats
I am so proud of this star 🌟 🤩 - she had an incredible year, published about 3 million articles, finished a PhD draft, got sanctioned by 🇷🇺 .
But mostly, is the most amazing Mum to our daughters, and my greatest support and love. Simply dazzling

Put aside the famine being inflicted on Gaza in what increasingly look like genocide.

Written in 1917, Balfour’s declaration began the ethnic cleansing of Palestine by promising the land away — which the British never had the right to do.

I want to be clear. I am not heartbroken 💔 because I am a good ally. This was not a gift in our giving.
We were the recipients. We slapped away an act of utmost generosity.

Pretty excited to receive this is the mail! Its been a long road, but thrilled to finally be able to hold a copy of my book:

I am so damn proud of this effort by the amazing

Well done "Dr Mummy" - your family love you to bits and think you are the bestest

I have spent the last few days immersed in the YES and NO campaigns. I have just given an interview on the Pamphlets; the ABC host was horrified that there is no requirement they be legally or factually correct.
I am disgusted that public money is being spent deceiving people
So today is my 40th! Not troupes about about getting old. As my girls spoiled me rotten today I realised that slight pressure in my chest was not a heart attack but a deep and abiding contentment & happiness.
Thank you all for being a fab part of this. Endless love

Do you remember the reaction when russia launched a "limited ground offensive" on a neighbouring country because they wanted to 'stop the (nazi) terrorists'?
If not, time to dust off the archives
So apparently I may have just had my book published! 'The Judicial Function' is now available to download. Thanks to some many people who have helped, but most especially

What part of yesterday's hearing suggested that they have any idea about procedure. Or remedies. Or contemporary legal doctrine at all really...
Including restitution (returning land and cultural property) compensation and satisfaction and evacuation of all settlements and dismantling of the Wall in OPT and allow Palestinians to return
Still plenty of work to go (doors, drawers, lights, touch up) but feels great to finish the shelving of my new big bookcase. Can start filling it up...
Here is a link to the censured article by

Writing is difficult.
However, what about when you have to cut words from a manuscript or chapter you wrote, sometimes thousands? Every sentence seems 'essential' sometimes...
What criteria do you use to decide which sentences should be removed? Any tips??

(Oh, and it was really positive too, which is lovely)
Since the referendum I have been mulling over the best way to address the catastrophic levels of ignorance about the constitution and legal institutions that were revealed in that debate.
The responses to NZYQ have only made this need more pressing.
I am doing actual research! Sure I can only spend an hour on it today, and it is polishing up a piece that is largely done. BUT this is the first time since March I have been able to do my own research

Really upset by this news. James Crawford was a titan of International Law, but more so was an mentor and friend to me and especially to Juliette. He changed both our lives in so many positive ways
I have spent all evening fending off attacks from the righteously angry, concerned a painting was damaged.

So I know reform of UN SC veto is just a pipe dream. But hear me out.
Link enforcement of ICJ with UN voting rights: defaulting on a judgment = suspension of voting rights.
Bypass enforcement concerns and honour status of ICJ as judicial organ

Judicial Impartiality Review. Tired brain, but so good to be able to do this sort of work again - and such an important topic
Just had an absolutely delightful experience as a reviewer. Reviewed a paper in beginning of year - full of promise, but needed some sig tweaks. I gave extensive feedback, conscious to avoid being the despised 'reviewer 2'.
Just looked at the R&R version. It is fabulous.
I have been really feeling this over the last week. For nearly a decade twitter has been my ho to source of quality breaking news.
The wisdom of the crowd elevated interesting and insightful stories.
No more. It has been toxic this week.
Truth in Political Advertising is trending. Remember SA not only has such a system, but uses is. There were 138 complaints made during the last SA election, including this high profile matter:
