My new article, 'Where is Home without Legal Status? Understanding the Choice to Stay Among Post-Cessation Liberians in Nigeria,' has just been published in Refugee Survey Quarterly @RefugeeSurvey. This article uses the experiences of individuals whose refugee status has been revoked under Article 1C(5) of the Cessation Clause, without achieving lasting solutions, to examine: 1️⃣ The diverse meanings attached to the concept of “returning home” and the choice to stay behind in closed camps, even after the withdrawal of humanitarian aid and eviction notices. 2️⃣ How the intricate interplay between precarious legal status, agency, and constraint is navigated in the absence of state protection. 3️⃣ How memory and the diasporic condition influence the decision-making processes and transitional efforts to establish new homes.
