𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐧 2020, amidst the pandemic, in a small city, an idea was born.
“World through a Stethoscope” - came into being, with the intent of - giving the future of healthcare, a voice, to share their incredible medical journeys and experiences.
Patient's relatives, who I had discharged yesterday, came specifically to give sweets to me today 🥺😭♥️
Patient had intense headaches owing to meningioma, which had made him irritable since last 8 months.
He used to shout and yell.
He's the happiest now! After removal.
My abstract got selected in one of the top National Neurosurgery Conferences, where I am the only MBBS graduate presenting a paper.
My seniors in department reacted by saying this - "Did you even take our permission to present"
Neurosurgery is so beautiful! 🥺😭♥️
Not only the surgical outcome aspect, but conservative as well.
A patient, who had Broca's aphasia, owing to a diffuse SAH and SDH, improved in the most exotic way over 4 days.
Heard him say his full name today.
Was making only sounds on D1.
A Senior Neurosurgeon told me, "The only limiting factor upon becoming a surgeon is your health. Not your knowledge. Not technology. Not technique. But your health. Make sure to take care of it."
Food for 🧠

Your girl is going to present her neurosurgery research at an International Conference in Netherlands :’)
Grateful to be selected from across the globe to receive the Travel Grant ✨
Most wholesome thing I heard today said by HoD of Neurosurgery Department (Male)
“There are very few women neurosurgeons in India, and my institute is BLESSED to have one of them”

Hello IMG community - please welcome new addition to the family :)
I’m Dr.Tejas Shelar,MBBS,
A recent graduate from India. I’m currently doing the compulsory 1 year housemanship bond in Mumbai.
The device I'm handling is Surgical Microscope, it provides optical precision, brilliant 3D visualization and perfect ease of use for all fields of surgical applications.
Have you seen it in operation theaters? Which speciality?
The vibe of this place is 🔮
Had visited this institute back in 2019. As a 2nd year medical student.
Have you been to AIIMS?
What is your fondest memory?

Literally operated everyday of last week!
Surviving in a department where there's no intern, no residents, directly super speciality consultants is no joke!
Feels like nothing can surprise me now 😤😂

And I had, thought, my seniors in department would be the happiest, to get to know this.
Can't wait to really understand, what's going on?!

Yes, I am not just a doctor.
And artist as well.
It's fills my heart to see medicos expressing themselves through art. Want to connect with more like us. Comment down the BEST doc artist you know.

Endoscopy is the undebatable present and future!
1 cm scar and so many complex procedures can be done.
Magical, in true sense.
Wrapped up Day 1.

FYI - I had sent across the paper, way before joining the department.
I'm not presenting, the research done in our institute.
I had sent across my entire CV, and the committee even has granted my scholarship worth 30k for attending the conference.
Obesity is an upcoming pandemic.
By 2030, it's projected that more than 75% of population will be obese.
It's going to impact all medical professionals. Are you prepared for it?

It catapults incredible stories of 73 healthcare professional authors from around the 🌍
Need all kind of blessings and support♥️
What are different avenues - other than medicine to pursue post MBBS ?
Other than research? And residency?
It would help a lot if you would tag people going the unconventional way.

Got selected for an International Neurosurgery Conference Scholarship 🥺😭
Next 5 days, gonna witness stalwarts from all over the 🌍
Past, present, future of Neurosurgery 🧠🥂

The patients, whose frontal lobe brain abscess/pus we drained yesterday, started talking again.
And recognising his relatives.
Earlier, didn't talk and was in confused state.
Have you witnessed something like this before?

Was feeling bad, didn't get an off on an official holiday.
Even residents were all dolled up and attending the Ganpati Utsav.
Called up my dad, and there he was.
All smiling, while working.
There's where I derive my strength from.
Whom I get inspiration from to work harder.
Hello all!
I’m Dr Tejas Shelar,
A recent graduate from India.
I’ve embarked on the USMLE journey - recently - as I am limited by financial constraints. I’m looking to sponsor my own journey.
I’m looking for postdoctoral research position in Neurosurgery.

One of the most beautiful things, my HOD Neurosurgery has told me, "Every surgeon has their own fingerprint, no two of them are going to be exact"
Can't stop playing it over in my mind.
Do you agree?

Burred my first Burr Hole 💛
Also, made first neurosurgical incision 🥺
The utter bliss?
Does this feeling go away? Eventually? Or does it only grow over time?

Alert - WHAT REAL CONVOCATION is!
An office employee, as part of his routine job, will hand you over the paper which is culmination of 5.5 best years spent learning Medicine - while drum rolls with awestruck firecrackers go in your mind. That 5 gm paper represents every thing!
I haven't told my dad about this for last 3 years.
Because I wanted it to be a surprise.
Drumrolls🥁
My book - World through a Stethoscope is going on air next week!
3 years labour of sweat, tears and love.
When is the right time to tell him ?
And how should I?
#BookTwitter
Days where I discharge the patients, are so wholesome.
Things I've realised are super important,
1. Post operative care, is non-negotiable
2. Proper rehabilitation by qualified physiotherapists
3. Counselling relatives
4. Regular follow-up

Doctoring differently.
Had to fly to Nagpur.
Stuck overnight.
Had a personal milestone to celebrate midnight.
Plan flushed.
As I grow, I realise, with great power comes great responsibility.
Doctors can be authors too!
In a world forever transformed by the COVID pandemic, a remarkable idea was born."World through a Stethoscope" a platform dedicated to amplifying the voices of healthcare professionals, and a testament to the power of human resilience.

The shiver down my spine, holding the labour, sweat and tears of last 3 years - these 2 books is something I can't express.
"Published Author"
Read one of my goals, I'd written down in my diary entry dated 9 Feb '18.
At present, "World through a Stethoscope", book is going on air on 26 Oct '23.
To give back, I'm empowering healthcare professionals to get into publishing realm.
Let's connect!

Got pretty overwhelmed today.
Sister of patient, who had cerebellopontine angle SOL causing her issues since 1 year, was discharge today post excision of the lesion, told me "You've given her new life, you people are our God" and started crying profusely.
World through a Stethoscope - Volume 1 and 2, anthology books are live on Amazon. In, Amazon Prime and Notion Press as Paperback book :)
Your girl is a PUBLISHED AUTHOR, you all :')

Had heard, those pursuing USMLE journey as IMGs say - “It’s more about the person you become in the process, that counts”
Now I understand it, perhaps?
Started running. Once who hated every extra step invested in walking.
Here’s to my first marathon.
Does it happen often?
My BIGGEST FLEX inadvertently till date is this - getting the opportunity to present my Original Research at a Neurosurgery Conference in Hyderabad 🥺
P. S. Yes, Dr Strange and Derek Shepherd were part of my presentation. I'm so glad, the risk was worth it!
This entire month, I've had one off.
Yesterday, wasn't feeling well, had to take a sick leave.
Today on rounds, almost all my patients were concerned about me. Because I wasn't there yesterday. And I can't even 😭😭

Going to be part of an International Tour named " Forgiving Across Faultlines " supported by Gully Clinic, where my art will displayed!
Today, in Mumbai, from 6.00 pm onwards.
I would love to have you drop by 🥺♥️
That unshakable calmness we’ve developed - because of the chaos witnessed in the emergency room as doctors!
Nothing really shakes you up anymore. You can breathe through most uncertain situations.
Like the non-medicos say - “No emergency impresses an emergency doctor”

@GawrysSteve
Consultant : There's only one high profile person in this entire institute, and you better know, who's that
Me : The DEAN
Consultant : It's ME!
Micdrop 😂
Never been this nervous in last year.
FYI, have assisted multiple neurosurgeries, all of them are invariably nerve wrecking.
Getting a book launched is no joke :')
Know all the words, and positioning of punctuations by heart - owning to the innumerous proof reading and editing.
The dentist suggested wisdom tooth extraction and all I could think post that conversation was tiny vegetations on my heart valves 😭
Being a doctor is difficult at times.
Being a first generation doctor from a humble background - sometimes it’s just surreal to even comprehend. As my dad says “You work hard and be honest to your profession, things take care of themselves”. They truly do.
Let’s catch up if you’re in Netherlands?
#MedX
First review from a stranger on LinkedIn- a 2nd year med student!
The book is fulfilling it’s purpose :’)
Happiest moment!
If you could buy a copy, it would mean a lot to me.
If you wish, you can directly get it from me. I’ll put in a discount along with free shipping.
Let’s connect and grow - I’ve got amazing opportunities coming up - one of them being chance to be a co-author on a book - World through a Stethoscope. Feel free to drop and say “Hi”

Just reinstated my want to fly off.
Thank you Sir, for being so supportive.
I'm not gonna let, such a golden opportunity go by, because of these people.
I'm preparing my CV according to the academic style of formatting,
What is 11-12th equivalent to in US? What do they term it as?
GCE advanced?
Any tips?

Happy Diwali ♥️
My parents holding the book in their hands was indeed so emotional.
I read the story (written in English) and translated it in Marathi for them, and couldn't hold my tears back.
The pages have dried, but hold so much more than just those stories now.

Well, couldn't celebrate Raksha Bandhan, last year due to internship!
This year was gonna be no different, but my younger one, came all the waayyyyy 🥺♥️
I know exactly how it feels.
Post operative a major orthopaedic surgery, was NBM for 12 hours, and extremely thirsty.
16 year old me, asked the doctor in the observatory room for water.
He explained why he can't, and then he gave few drops via a dropper.
Medicine residents, please whoever has NG tube placed, REMEMBER their mouth is dry like hell and they really feel the thirst. Just imagine what you would feel if you are damn thirsty and no one gives you water. We are of the impression that they are getting enough replacement
When someone makes a mistake, correct them without being rude or arrogant because guess what, they will learn from the mistake anyway but that rudeness will only make it difficult for them to look up to you for guidance and support. Inspire to change!

To the kind people I’ve met in Europe - my first every international trip - which also happens to be a SOLO, One Way ticket :’)
I was so scared and nervous - you, the kindest people I’ve met and going to meet - made me feel like I’m not alone.
This thread is dedicated to you.
One month of Neurosurgery HO ship.
Life lesson learnt :
Being your own cheerleader is a MUST to survive. No one is gonna help. It's all your own conviction, hardwork and perseverance.

Being the first generation doctor, I always thought going to US/UK was for people with money. So obvious choice of doing post graduation was home land. Started preparation right from 2nd year (MS2) for PG Entrance exam.
Talking to fellow IMGs, their advices have helped me a lot! And made me realise - “We’re one TEAM” I am truly humbled and grateful to be in this journey and part of this bigger community ♥️
Hosting the Cricket Men's World Cup tomorrow at my place!
Super excited!
Are you feeling nervous for tomorrow?
Hope the unbeatable streak continues and becomes 11/11 🥂
𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 -
Got into government medical school - studying at a local coaching class - in my first attempt - and I’m proud for that, though it wasn’t really an option - given the middle-class background I come from.

Here's a short recap,
My eating schedule for last 29 days, as a Neurosurgery House Officer
7.30 am : Breakfast
5.30 pm : Lunch
Also, no weekend off :')
Residency in disguise??! 😂

Never thought I'll be put able to put up an art show of 15 acrylic paintings including minicanvas and wooden slice ones.
The fact, that it was part of an International Tour, emphasizing on "Forgiveness", on 🌍 Mental Health Day made it even more special.

Used to listen to FM Radio back then, BEST HORROR story narration’s out there - can’t believe it’s been 9 years of airing this beauty 🤌🏼
Was it just me ?
During my internship, did IELTS exam, scored band 8 in 2 weeks. Booked PLAB 1. Wrote the exam. But during the phase of looking at future and my vision, realised that US would be the best place to grow for me.
We operated spine case - D12 Decompression and Fixation.
The pt came with inability to move lower limbs.
Meet the patient today, and she could move her limbs, power restored 3/5 in both lower limbs 🥺
Witnessing magic in real life 🌻
