@kari_jerge My husband finds the contrast between my passion for true crime and beach read/romance novels fascinating. The books on my nightstand could not be more different. Glad I'm not the only one!!!

@adamcifu This is part of the reason I love being a hospitalist. When I make those connections, I can just pop back down the hall (or more likely across massive hospital complex) to ask follow up questions/inform them/do more work up/start treatment/etc.

@kari_jerge Honestly, it's been just over a year since I had to put my shepherd down and the trips to the bathroom without her following behind are one of the silly things I miss the most❤️❤️ just the best little doggies

@RyanBuckleyMD @chasejwebber @VUMCHospitalMed @Factor_XII So true! the high moral injury and compassion fatigue is so real...but also why I think it is sooo necessary to do direct care. Otherwise, it's easy to forget that they are VERY real and as a result, we just end up passing that burden to the residents (ps hi!!)

BUT much needed as reinforcement of how hard it is to manage everything when caring for patients and still show up as your best self for them

@gretchemaben I've run 5 marathons on it since and surgery was probably inevitable but I wish I had spent more effort on non-surgical options before. And I wish I had done it with a more sports medicine oriented surgeon who had a better understanding of what a "good" outcome meant to me

@rosnydaniel I worry that even if/when people with money and power experience terrible patient care, they will just find ways to work around the system for themselves and those they are connected to rather than push for system wide change
