We’re living in uncertain political times & are in danger of passing on a poor legacy. The UK is divided by political fraudsters more focused on themselves than on solving our country's problems. Here's a film I made about the value of connections #GE2019

No you haven’t vaccinated 1 in 10 of the UK population. To vaccinate someone against #COVID19 requires two injections. You know this. Why not tell the truth for a change? Facts matter

A few of us saw this coming. We threw our political careers in front of the Boris bus to stop his corrupt elevation to PM & his damaging Brexit. Ultimately, it was futile. But I’m glad I tried. If we’d succeeded we’d have saved lives from #COVID19 and livelihoods from this Brexit

Don’t hold your breath waiting for Tory MPs to remove Johnson. All the decent ones left in 2019 when he became PM. The sad truth is that anyone who stood with him in 2019 was complicit in inflicting his well-known laziness, incompetence and moral corruption on the British people

Just watched a @BBCNews report on Brazilian politics in which Bolsonaro’s record on responding to #COVID19 was described by his opponents as “genocidal”. Worth noting that Brazil’s death rate is high, but (relative to population) not as high as Britain’s. We need a public inquiry

Any defence of Brexit now relies on a sunk cost fallacy. Not holding my breath for it to happen soon, but the majority of British people already know it: Britain should rejoin the EU, and fast. In future, the top table of global affairs will have three attendees: US, EU and China

Either way, we must make our systems fit-for-purpose, elect good people, not just those who political parties can rely on to shut up, not put up. Lives have been lost unnecessarily because we’ve failed to put calm, wise and authoritative people in charge. Let’s change 14/

Last week a Swiss Court overturned a referendum result because the Swiss people were “informed erroneously and in an incomplete way”. We need a #FinalSay for the British people to secure their #InformedConsent before proceeding with Brexit #RightToVote

How long will it take for the anger directed at those who warned of the impact of a hard Brexit to be directed instead at those who conned people into voting for it in the first place?

Absolute pleasure to address a packed @conservative4pv fringe this afternoon - standing room only. I’m embarrassed that the Party banned this event from the handbook. It’s patriotic and democratic to seek the #informedconsent of the people on #Brexit #cpc18

Here’s Wokingham’s MP @johnredwood trying to advise the US President-Elect @JoeBiden on Brexit. Cringeworthy stuff. Please can I apologise again to Wokingham constituents, the country and the wider world for losing my election battle with him last December

Now that Theresa May has more of an idea about what a realistic #Brexit entails, it’s time to be straight with people. It‘s not what was promised or hoped for. The only democratic course of action now is to #suspendA50 & give people a #FinalSay #SalzburgSummit #dreamsmeetreality

With more turmoil looming over #Brexit this week, it's heartening to see support growing to #SuspendA50 and hold a #2ndEUref - most recently from @JustineGreening . What’s best for our country must be at the front of our minds

It should now be clear to all that a grubby and incompetent little cabal is currently governing our country - the same people who began by lying their way to #Brexit & then in govt caused the unnecessary premature deaths of thousands from #COVID19 . We so need a viable alternative

The catastrophic breach of trust here is our runaway Government using every trick to force a bad deal on the UK that doesn’t in any way measure up to promises made in 2016. Parliament taking control is just defending our people’s interests

Theresa May is wrong. There is an alternative: #suspendA50 & give people a #FinalSay between a viable Brexit & new Remain. She should stop bullying @Conservatives colleagues into accepting a deal that is the worst of both worlds & give Parliament the meaningful vote she promised

Fact: EU-Japan FTA came into force last week which means #Nissan X-Trails now enter EU market directly from Japan with a 0% tariff versus risk of 10% tariff under WTO/No Deal Brexit. People of Sunderland & elsewhere need to give their #InformedConsent to this Brexit #RightToVote

#Nissan . The facts. They are moving production to Japan away from Europe altogether. Since 2016, there has been a total management restructure and it’s boss now imprisoned. They are ignoring Nissan/Renault factories in Barcelona and Paris all at half capacity. 1/2

Just came across this from @adwooldridge - the origins of Brexit accurately summed up in one paragraph. If Britain leaves the EU on 31st October with No Deal, the Brexiteer hunters will become the hunted. Nobody reaps a backlash like a failed populist party #FinalSay

Ann Widdecombe - often offensive and usually wrong. And now an international embarrassment to modern Britain. No grasp of history or the value of diplomacy. Apparently, some ‘Conservatives’ want to embrace this rabid nonsense. If our Party wants a future it should not #FinalSay

Gove and Hancock are the senior Government ministers responsible for pandemic preparedness. We now know that both knew full well how weak Britain’s #COVID19 position was in Jan. The fact they did so little is a gross dereliction of duty. They should resign

Whatever the Brexit outcome at Westminster we need to check with the public before going ahead, for the sake of Leave voters as well as Remain. Otherwise it is political fraud. People have a right to a #FinalSay #RighttoVote

I will be voting for that same amendment in the @HouseofCommons and urge all my colleagues to do likewise. MPs can’t stand up for the people they are elected to represent unless Parliament has a voice.

Nonsense. No one is saying it’s easy. But people have a right to a final say now we know what is actually deliverable. It’s not wise to accept the folly of having a referendum and then blindly implement the result, it’s spineless. Time to show some leadership #RightToVote

A fine analysis of the folly of trying to solve the problems of the 1st referendum by holding a 2nd: ⁦”half of the British electorate is likely to come away feeling as if a second referendum cheated them out of a voice, rather than granting them one”

Serious questions need to be asked of the ministers and civil servants responsible for acting on the findings of that 2016 exercise. Who was in charge of getting us ready for a pandemic (something we knew was a top risk), and what went wrong? 8/
