@SarahBlick3 @Portaspeciosa Interesting. I hadn't seen that before. However if there were multiple saints to call on (in both senses) doesn't that support the argument for access outside of service times.

@TheCCT is hosting an online talk by @GraffitiGinger about medieval graffiti in churches on Tuesday 11 February at 6. She will be talking, amongst other things, about graffiti at Holy Trinity Goodramgate, found by our young volunteers group. Do sign up.

@Portaspeciosa @SarahBlick3 No doubt practice varied by time and place but the late medieval English custom of popping into the church to say a prayer to St Christopher before starting a journey suggests that churches were open early in the morning (though that might be in preparation for mass).

Holy Trinity Goodramgate is taking part in the #Yorkicetrail this weekend. Do come and visit our (quite icy) church, make paper snowflakes, and see the snowdrops and aconites in the churchyard. We're open 11-3 on Saturday and Sunday.

@Portaspeciosa Thanks for the photos. I didn't get to see the bells. I'm inclined to think that the linear features at either side of the chancel probably are in situ but the rest is reuse of decorative stonework. So probably is the arch into the apse but not windows.

@GenealogyBeech I think growing them (and the associated lack of sugar) was a common product of wartime experiences.

@GenealogyBeech The rhubarb of my youth was grown in the garden and not plucked until well grown. My more recent experience is of younger and finer rhubarb from York market, or a local greengrocer.
