I think MA Jinnah is only leader in the world who gave his entire wealth to educational institutions through his last will. He divided it in 3 parts, giving each to Aligarh Muslim University, Islamia College Peshawar and Sindh Madressah of Karachi. His hand-written & signed copy.

For about 2000 years, Afghanistan has been a source of trouble for Indian subcontinent, as most of invaders & conquerors of India came through this route. For about 200 years, soldiers from Punjab & KP have been successfully defending the western border. In my this Dawn article I

Before advent of Sukkur Barrage in 1930s, a large part of Sindh was a desert. But its education system was extremely robust. It was in this background that a member of Bombay Legislative Assembly remarked in 1936, “Sindh produces two things: men and sand”. Where do we stand now?

My grandfather Shaikh Muhammad Hayat (1900-1957). As per family tradition I was entrusted with the ‘pagg’ (headgear) he is wearing. On demise of my grandfather, it was wore by my father and bestowed upon me on his demise in 1996. It symbolized transfer of family responsibilities.

Three factors responsible for Pakistan’s precarious condition today are (1) our neglect of quality mass education, particularly skill-based technical education, (2) under development of small and medium enterprises, and (3) rampant corruption in the country. Address them today!

GM Syed was once Quaid-e-Azam’s ardent supporter & president of Sindh ML. The differences arose on award of 1946 election tickets, where Liaquat favored distribution under center, Syed under province. Both groups awarded tickets separately, maligning each other, as in this poster

Some friends have raised the question of young ages of QA and Emibai (16 & 14) when they got married, terming them child marriage. Remember that it was a norm then as life expectancy was only 22-25 years in India, from year 1800 to 1920. The women were more susceptible to death

Today, on death of Gen Mushraff, I remembered 35-years old Benazir Bhutto’s reaction on death of Gen Zia who had martyred her father and tormented her life for 11 years. “Once he is dead, his matter remains with Allah and closed for us,” she said. I deeply respected her intellect
