medics. We all salute the entire year as they embark early on their career as junior Drs. As with all final yr medics across the UK & beyond-look after them, look after each other-we’re just so proud of you all
Over the moon to see our very own Margaret Sterling
@QUBMedEd
being awarded the BEM in the New Years Honours list 2024 - for her services to higher education. Margaret is truly an inspiration to students and staff alike
So 25 yrs ago (yikes - a quarter of a century 😬) more or less to the day - this bunch of young doctors graduated at
@QUBelfast
- how time flies. Many fond memories. (PS
@QUBMedEd
can you spot some familiar faces?!)
Very stark figures
In 2021:391 Irish doctor obtained temp work visas for Australia
2022:402 have applied for temp visas
Ireland has ‘750 Medical graduates per year’

Words can’t convey how humbled+proud we are of our med students. Somethings just can’t go online. Credit to those involved in delivering acute care skills training to our final yrs in a safe/supportive fashion👏

‘So daddy-who was John Hume?’
‘He was a peacemaker that worked tirelessly to create the peaceful place you call home. He did so with great grace & intellect-despite many people not agreeing with him. He helped make the impossible a reality’
‘He was a special man’
#RIPJohnHume
My goodness-what a day. Consently reminded how privalged I am to work with such special people, friends, students+patients. Inaugurals are quite nerve wrecking but made easier by their support. PS Still haven’t shaken my imposter syndrome PPS the two slides that meant most to me
Oh the joys of qualitative research. Reviewer asks why we didn't 'measure the magnitude' of change on a scale in our phenomenological study.....
@drjennyjohnston
I think we need a coffee to resettle myself?!
There are Tuesdays & then there are special Tuesdays
Our very own Margaret Sterling received her BEM honour at Hillsborough Castle today
Margaret is 1 in a million
Lots of love to Margaret, Wesley & family from her colleagues & students on this special day

As our CSEC star says - you’ve got this 😊!

As a GP and son of a nurse, solidarity with our nursing colleagues and the professional/measured/factual response by
@patcullen9
- regarding these disrespectful comments by Mike Fabricant. Such comments are unacceptable
The letter has also been sent to the party Chairman Oliver Dowden. The College will await the response on behalf of their half million respected nursing (voting) members.
Very slick service at
@QUBelfast
asymptomatic COVID testing centre. Process < 10mins, friendly and result in less than 1 hr. Placing an additional step in addition to all of the other measures in keeping ourselves safe
@QUBstaff
Needs must. Requiring to calculate correct ‘worming dose’ and needing an accurate weight. Cooking scales saved the day (and all properly cleaned up afterwards). Heavier than we thought
Pretty much every working day I pass a local COVID testing centre (over the last 20 months). Today I have never seen the queue as long. Please, please get vaccinated and don't let up on the prevention measures.
Words can’t say how proud I am of

Long day but just in awe of the incredible work happening in our Sim community. Over 150 delegates, 50 abstracts & 1 common purpose:
✅to harness simulation to further drive safe, effective & kind care
Thank you to one & all for making today so special. Now to get my feet up…
Thank you for sharing
@CanadaPaintings
Sadly, Milt passed away this week. He was one of the most gentle/humble human beings you will ever meet
This painting takes me back to special times with Milt portaging in Killarney Pk, ON🇨🇦 Fond memories, & paintings, of a life well lived
So as the week concludes-what a joy it was to have students back in CSEC/CME. It has been a herculean effort by all to plan/prepare for teaching safely during COVID. But seeing the excitement & joy in their learning-makes it all worthwhile. Feeling proud of entire

A heart felt congratulations to our final year medical students who now start their careers as junior doctors. Welcome to the medical family. We are so immensely proud of you all

#Colleague
Just sent an old friend a get well soon card who is struggling with mental illness. Individuals with mental illness receive far fewer messages of support than those with physical health issues-yet 8/10 say receiving a 'Get well' card would improve their recovery
#reducethestigma
So got the Chrimbo decorations down from the loft tonight. This little bedraggled robin decoration is over 80 years of age (was my mums as a child) and has never missed a Christmas in that time. So much nostalgia wrapped up in one little decoration 🎄
What a delight it was to work with

Heard repeatedly today from students
‘I’ve always wanted to ask…’
a nice outcome of the psychological safety that can be created in simulation (and many other forms of teaching) to allow students to freely ask questions
The small things can be extraordinary in learning…..
In the busyness of everything - it’s important to take a moment to pause, gather and natter 😊 (and celebrate one of your colleagues achievements 👑)
Very proud of this little team 😊
So packing up before I move office and came across this antiquity.... younger educators will never know the pain of getting slides ready and the spatial challenge of getting them the correct way round in the projector 😬

Just came across the best outpatient letter. Really nice person-centric narrative, succinct, clear advice for patient and GP. Addressed to patient, (and I, as GP, cc’d in). Really like this trend in OP letters. More of this please
Eliza, you have not ‘failed’….the system has failed you. From you generously sharing your story….you just might help right this broken system. From someone who ‘failed’ their 11 plus - this should never hold you back from being your brilliant self - the world is your oyster….
Last night my ten year-old daughter cried in my arms asking me why she is so stupid. I explained that the education system is flawed and that she is VERY smart. 1/7

To my shame this is my first ever visit to the Highlands 🏴
This beautiful Bothy provided a welcome (sustainable) shelter for the night - from the snow and -1 deg temp.
