“When in doubt- ask the patient”. 3 years ago I spoke at a conference for patients w/ anal cancer. The audience listened politely to my talk on radiation but during the QA portion- I realized quickly I would learn more that day from these folks than they would learn from me (1/7)

Had amazing time visiting my favorite city in the universe. I 1st learned what a Gy was in this res room. I 1st learned rad onc is the best field in medicine in this dept. Thanks for welcoming a San Antonio gal home- even if just for 18 hours :) ❤️
It was wonderful to have master educator @DrEmmaHolliday come back to her alma mater @UTHealthSAMDA for a fantastic visiting professorship on the complexities of rectal cancer - integrating patient centric care along with clinical pathways by disease stage. Thanks for teaching our residents!

For now, "standard" will appropriately shift to peri-operative FLOT BUT we should not be satisfied as outcomes remain suboptimal Ongoing ❓❓ - does TNT (FLOT + CRT) offer further benefit? - is it time to consider organ preservation w/ CRT? - how to manage those who cannot tolerate FLOT (pre-op CRT seems most appropriate) Much to unpack amongst our multi-D teams as we consider optimal approach for our patients

Agree! We still receive consults for folks meeting the old SWOG S0809 criteria and it’s always felt like a bit of overkill for R0…
Results make sense to me as well. Most patients with gallbladder cancer recur distantly, & w R0 resection the risk of local recurrence even lower. I don’t give adjuvant RT for R0 resection, consistent w ASCO guidelines (rec for R1). Nice to have RCT in this space.

My sweet daughter wrote Christmas cards to my patients getting radiation during the holiday season. This is my favorite- “zzaapp + prayers = no cancer” 🤷♀️A perfect summary of what I do at work ☢️ + 🙏
