Best question in the debate about the

amendment to Art III of the Constitution: What does it say that we are slow on the take in addressing the sexual abuses of women but fast on the draw to remove them from ministry? The answer is clear to anyone who is listening.

In 1988 the SBC passed a resolution that subordinated the priesthood of believers to the authority of the pastor. It urged messengers to "obey your leaders." It was wrong then, and it's still wrong. The pastor is a servant not a CEO.

This whole report is sickening and sad, but not surprising when the two architects of the SBC “conservative resurgence” were abusers. One wrote the article on the family that made complementarianism a denominational doctrine. That fostered the toxic culture we’re reading about.

Today is the 2 yr anniversary of an insurrection on the US Capitol. The blame does not lie on militant militia or radical politicians, but with Pentecostal pastors and Evangelical ministers who promoted violent rebellion based on spiritual warfare and dominionist theology.
@aramtch
@BillyGraham
Grant Wacker, BG biographer had many personal meetings with BG over the last few years, and one of the few admitted into the archives. BG was non compos mentis for the last decade. FG claims BG was lucid and wrote books, articles, and voted. No way.

POTUS Joe Biden quoted Isaiah 6 today confusing/conflating US Foreign policy with the Mission of God. The Holy One of Israel is not recruiting soldiers to advance or protect US national interests or Western civilization. That is an offensive if not idolatrous statement.
Our reality. My spouse quarantining at home. Multiple family members COVID-19 positive. This is not a hypothetical possibility. It kills people. Don’t miss that.

I have learned the last two days that many/most? do not think the abuse crisis in the SBC has anything to do with gender. I've been instructed that it's not power dynamics, social structures, or gender hierarchies. Just a few evil people. Nothing systemic. An awakening for me.

Today marks the 359th anniversary of the Great Ejection. On August 24, 1662, over 2,000 dissenting ministers were forced out of the Church of England for their unwillingness to violate their consciences by conforming to the Act of Uniformity and the newly reinstated BCP.

Wonderful sermon today connecting the prophet’s prayer for God’s coming down in Isaiah 64:1 with God’s incarnate coming down in Christ (John 3:13). That’s the sort of exegesis lectionary preaching encourages. You modeled what we teach. Thank you.
What's missing in SBC response? 1) a database to track & warn about known predators, 2) mandatory training to recognize & address abuse, 3) repudiation of a low view of women that contributes to a culture of abuse.
