In one of my early leadership roles, I noticed a recurring issue—tasks were being overlooked, and frustration was building. I knew we needed accountability but feared it might feel punitive to the team. I took a different approach: we co-created accountability systems. My department set clear goals across the teams, and we established bi-weekly check-ins to track progress. We outlined student behaviors & expectations, teacher behaviors & expectations, adult behaviors & expectations. These meetings weren’t about pointing fingers but about removing barriers and celebrating wins. One teacher shared that this structure helped her feel more supported and less overwhelmed. By the end of the 1st semester, our teams showed a 20% increase in task completion, and our culture of trust strengthened.
