Thank you everyone for all the snow reports, pictures and supportive tweets, it’s been really special. If we don’t see any snow until next winter I will be continuing as DorserSun into the summer, reporting on extreme weather events such as heatwaves, thunderstorms etc

Back home now. That was incredibly satisfying and gave me a big smile, but in an ideal world you shouldn’t have to climb a hill at the other side of the county to see some snow flakes in the middle of winter. Almost fell flat on my face on the way down too.

So glad to see the back of March. It was an absolute shocker!
A new month is here and a very welcome return of high pressure. Plenty of sunshine to come over the next couple of weeks and notably drier too. Temperatures around average, but feeling warm with a stronger sun.

It’s worth watching this area of low pressure to the south of the UK, which could be a snow maker on Boxing Day/27th Dec.
As it pushes north towards the UK it could collide with cold air and produce an area of heavy snowfall.

I’m not gonna bother with the graphic forecasts for the next 10 days. It’s basically a fortnight of sunshine/sunny spells and temps in the high teens/low 20s. Mostly light winds too. Absolutely perfect 👌

Probably the biggest thunderstorm risk of the year later tonight. A entire day of surface heating and some very unstable air makes it a great opportunity for some well organised thunderstorms overnight. Risk from 22:30.

Please guys, avoid reading papers such as the daily star. They only look to sell papers with scaremongering headlines. A third beast from the east is very unlikely, however a northerly which does bring cold weather is possible in around 10 days time.

I’d put the risk of a white Christmas in Dorset at about 7%. That’s about 6% higher than it normally is at this stage of the year.

Finally some good news, there’s an increasing chance of some warm (yes actual warm) and dare I say dry conditions moving in early next week from the south east. Possibly bbq weather with highs of 16-20c by Monday/Tuesday. I’m watching it closely

If you are waiting for snow you’ll probably be up all night and even then it may not arrive. An incredible amount of uncertainty, even at 5/6 hours range.

For those who went to sleep, the only areas that reported snow were Weymouth, Isle of Portland and parts of south Dorchester. The precipitation sunk into the channel just before reaching Dorset. A shame for some, but it’s not like we’ve missed the greatest snow event of all time.
