Article I worked on looking into the federal regulatory changes around Methadone and Bupe. ZERO of the people interviewed got the 14/28 day take homes allowed. Telehealth was most common implementation, but centered provider wants over client safety.

@kwardvancouver @melbee4444 I guess I've found it useful. But admittedly, I'm a nerd...

@caiazzo_sabrina Reverse image search, trying to figure out what this thing is, and your photo is the first match. Hmm...mine is definitely not malaria. (-:

@kwardvancouver @melbee4444 Like admittedly, those kind of condescending turds do tend to use this term a lot. But I don't think that means it's not useful as a way to understand violence against marginalized people and communities.

@kwardvancouver @melbee4444 Ok. So I hate to be this nerd...<actually>...but stigma could be measured. There's many different scales and ways to measure it.

@melbee4444 If these "former addicts" hasn't internalized stigma, they wouldn't be so easily manipulated for political goals of others. Internalized stigma can turn you into a tool for your own oppression. Otherwise people might fight back and demand dignity - can't have that, can we now?

@melbee4444 "Former addicts"...yuk. Stigma is informing this behavior as well though. It's the driving force behind biopolitics - it basically ensures that certain groups will be labeled as disposable and made available for harm, and others will be protected and sheltered from that harm.

If the obsession we observe among some doctors for buprenorphine wasn't occurring because it gives them more control over patients and adheres to a carceral ethic they operate under, then they wouldn't refuse to rx subutex (bupe sans naloxone - the "joy" police) even when asked.

@jpVari_ Happy for you. But do you choose to see them, or is it forced? Also, if you were unable or unwilling to abstain from using specific drugs (not self-directed, but the drugs clinic staff determine you should avoid) do you think they would maintain this helpfulness?

She mentioned that this was the most time she's actually spent in that office, with the counselor. But posing for the fake counseling for the photo op was pretty true to how it occurs - the "counseling" is all performance at methadone clinics.

@ibdgirl76 In addition to the appeal of these drugs for those who moralize intoxication and find control over others appealing, there are also infinitely less socially constructed risks and barriers to bupe than methadone in the States.

@HansfordLouise Basically, all the pressures that constrain and restrict "choices" ensure most of us who use drugs in ways that violate norms will come into harm.

@HansfordLouise Just meaning you'd be hard pressed to avoid being pushed into harms way, as socially, we've got everything set up to increase the likelihood that anyone who does compulsively use certain illicit drugs will be hurt or killed. Especially if they struggle to keep it private.

@HansfordLouise This is why negative outcomes are always decontextualized (in any way we communicate about certain types of drug use) and at least in the context of drug use, "choices" are falsely presented as if we all have the same options and choices are made in a sterile vacuum.
