Between 1948 and 1967, Gaza was ruled by Egypt, and Judea & Samaria was controlled by Jordan. During those 19 years, there were no calls for a Palestinian state and no demands for independence. In fact, the PLO charter, written in 1964, explicitly stated they had no territorial claims over the West Bank or Gaza. It was only after 1967, when Israel took control of these areas, that demands for a Palestinian state suddenly emerged. The pattern is clear: this isn’t about establishing a Palestinian homeland—it’s about opposing Israel. The borders of “historic Palestine” conveniently expand and contract based on Israel’s existence, not any genuine aspirations for independence.
