Will the stratosphere indeed produce an #SSW event in early January (potentially followed by some winter weather), or are the models jumping the gun like in other years? Vote by December 26 to enter the competition (and for extra holiday fun)! (see thread below for more info)
1/ Looks like the stratosphere is getting exciting again this winter, so here’s the annual sudden stratospheric warming (SSW) poll to see what you all think about the polar vortex breaking up this winter — whether and when? Stay tuned for some potential winter weather!

@ClimatePrimate @mikarantane @dombueeler @ECMWF @LinusMagnusson5 we looked at the effect of trends on subseasonal forecasts here: for the @ECMWF model. Interestingly there’s already an effect at subseasonal timescales, but the effect will be greater for longer lead times
