I have interviewed over 100 college soccer coaches in 2022. I asked them to give me their top dos and don’ts for highlight videos. Some coaches have personal preferences, but many of the answers were universal. Here are the top 5 consensus dos and don’ts for making your video.

@ImCollegeSoccer Remember, the NCAA is not "ranking" schools D1, 2 or 3. Schools choose which division they want to participate in based on how many sports they want to sponsor and at what level.

What I’m hearing from coaches is that they’re 3-6 months later than usual on their recruiting calendar. FAFSA has put things out of whack. Folks who would normally be looking at 25s are still on 24s, etc.

DON'T - Use video from your backyard or training. The only exception could be for GKs doing focused training with a GK coach. Coaches generally want to see game environments, not how many time you can juggle.

DO - Pick clips from multiple games. Show both attacking and defending, movement w/ & w/o the ball. Highlight your position. Be sure to show some of the build up and what happened after. This gives the coach the full perspective of the play & shows how it contributed to the game.
