Whether the Govt. was proceeding with the project or not should have been clearly communicated to both the investors and the general public. Vagueness over their intentions has opened the door for the investor to withdraw and cast doubts over the viability of such investments.

This is a misleading and concerning statement considering the source. While alcohol consumption did reduce, this applies to consumption of licit alcohol. Consumption of illicit alcohol saw a significant rise.

When prices were increased in 2022, it did not deter people from consuming but rather pushed them towards purchasing illicit liquor (. A further increase will have the same impact this time around.

The Minister must get his facts right before making these statements: • In 2024 61,600 MT of paddy was purchased by the GoSL for distribution to 2.8mn low-income families. • Total paddy production for the 2024 was 5.8mn MT. • Monthly consumption is 200,000 MT of paddy.

The Government has so far continued the economic recovery program that was begun by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, and we are grateful for that. If they don't plan to continue on this path then they must present a clear alternative to the public.
