There are many things in ortho that lack strong evidence. Cemented stems for hip fractures is not one of those things. #orthotwitter
Cement your hemi’s! It’s an @AAOS1 Clinical practice guideline STRONG recommendation, it’s supported by an abundance of clinical data, and is the right thing for your patients with hip fractures! #AAHKS2023

The relationship between exercise and arthritis - read my piece below on @OrthoEvidence
More Pain, More Gain? Exercise for Osteoarthritis Based on Insights from @Dinosaur_MD The relationship between OA and physical activity is hotly debated. Does running cause or prevent OA? Should patients with OA engage in exercise, even if waiting for a total joint replacement? Using OE's state-of-the-art database containing millions of data points, we identified 4 key takeaways on exercise & OA: 1⃣ Osteoarthritis is a Hot Topic: Osteoarthritis was the most investigated condition among current ongoing research in orthopaedics! 2⃣ Exercise is the Answer? Amongst the 3,510 ongoing trials in exercise is the 2nd most studied intervention! 3⃣ The J-Curve: Data from a 2017 systematic review found that recreational runners had significantly lower rates of hip and knee OA vs. both non-runners and competitive runners! 4⃣ Exercise = Less Pain & Better Function: The OE meta-analyzer tool found that, across 20 studies, pain was significantly lower in OA patients who received physical exercise intervention vs. control at 14 months (shown)! It also found significantly better function at 38 months in OA patients who received physical exercise vs. control! Overall, OA is one of the most pervasive issues in orthopaedics. Joint pain after moderate exercise may hurt, but doesn't necessarily equal harm. It's likely that exercise is beneficial to patients who are at risk of, or already have, OA!

So accurate
Doctors in public: Stranger: “What do you do for a living?” Me: I work down town. “Where?” At the hospital. “What do you do there?” I work in the operating room. “Doing what?” I take care of people. “Are you a doctor or a nurse?” Fine. Yes. I’m a doctor. #MedTwitter
