10-year-old Andre Howard was in the car with his father and siblings Saturday when the medvac jet tragically crashed in a Philadelphia neighborhood, causing debris to go flying everywhere. “My son who’s named after me, Andre Howard, tells his little sister, ‘Get down.’ And he grabs her I hear the glass shatter. I turn around, there’s a piece of metal sticking out of my son’s head from the plane,” Howard said. A stranger on the street took the shirt off his back to help apply pressure to Andre’s head. Then a Philadelphia police officer rushed them to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where the boy underwent emergency surgery. Family was told he likely wouldn’t make it or walk,but he survived surgery and is making great strides.

We are on our 5th medical emergency since 1pm. We are utilizing the on duty crews, and off duty firefighters who are recalled to cover Sta 1. We had a mutual aid ambulance from Sharon earlier. Now we have one from Norwood Fire responding to assist us.
