Now that YouTube has confirmed that they've removed the short from YouTube Kids... via a Fox news article (rather than my own request to remove it)... I guess I can make it public again. 😂
On a related note, the reference sheets from Thomas & Friends are awful. When taking reference photos you want to use as wide a focal length as possible to minimise perspective distortion.
Had a wonderful time in Japan! The Kyoto Railway Museum is a must visit for any railfan in Japan! I thought I’d spend a couple hours there but it ended being closer to 5! 😂
The funny thing is, when I uploaded this, I set it to “not made for kids“, YouTube then changed it to “set to made for kids“ but this was overturned on appeal and it’s now “not made for kids”. But they still kept it on the YouTube Kids app 🙃.
I remember years ago SiF had a petition to get HiT to release the original themes on CD and it never happened. The fact that
@MikeODonnell5
is up to volume 7 really shows how much it would've been worth doing. At least we get to support one of the original composers this way! 👇
So if Gauge 1 is 1:32 and Plarail is 1:64, then Thomas & Friends reference images can be scaled by half to make Plarail equivalent models. Thoughts:
- The rectangle between Thomas' wheels is standard gauge, so this makes sense.
Is this the best steam engine crash in cinema history? From the New Zealand film "Tangiwai - A Love Story". Based on New Zealand's worst railway accident.
I have never heard or read of a steam locomotive's chimney being referred to as a funnel outside of Thomas & Friends. Why does Awdry use the word funnel? Is this a regional thing?
If you haven't watched the latest short yet, check it out here: I went for something much more old school with this one. Curious to hear how you guys think it compares.
People are here for Thomas stuff. Not your personal life or other interests. Not saying you can't post about those either, but you shouldn't be bitter about it not getting the same amount of attention.
Anyone proficient in flash style face animation and is interested in working on the next short with availability this weekend/next week, please send me a DM with examples of previous work/rates. Thank you.
YouTube bots just deleted the shortened URL that redirected to the Kids Choice Awards voting page from the description of an 8 year old video. Well at least they didn't give me a strike.
Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays! I'm finally getting back to work. Just finished off this adaption of Old Slow Coach, which will serve to add some variation to my CG rolling stock. Thanks to
@Sidekickjason
for lending me the toy for reference... back in 2017.
Please do NOT write abusive messages about the company that owns Thomas on social media (especially if you are going to tag them!), it's not productive.
Constructive criticism is fine, but keep it at that. Upsetting their social media team won't make things any better.
I'd like to thank
@Germanbluesodor
for providing me with a bunch of reference images of the Plarail Talk 'n Action Diesel 10's Pinchy! I used it as a basis for my improved Pinchy in Short 50.
With all due respect to the original prop makers, when I first saw one of the models in person I was surprised at the lack of detail given the size. While that made sense for the low res, small TVs of the 80’s I feel there’s so much more that could still be achieved with models.
What medium do you guys think best worked for Thomas? The model series always looked the most real to me (no sh*t). The CG series had a lot of stuff you couldn't do with models. I'm not a fan of the 2D but the original illustrations were 2D so there's kinda a connection.
A few years ago, I joined my local railway heritage organisation. One of the first things I was able to contribute was an updated logo, which is now on the side of locomotive in revenue service. Whatever your skillset you can contribute!
Thanks to all my subscribers, new and old alike! I'm currently working on something a little different for DieselD199 at the moment, hopefully I'll have something to share in the next month or so.
Okay I know I'm late to the party but this Roblox game is fantastic. Wouldn't mind some objectives being added (i.e. collect these trucks and take them here etc) but for now it's great for RP at least.
2021 marks 150 years of railways in Western Australia. So I thought I'd introduce you to some of our steam locos throughout the year. Given all the talk about Edward, I thought I'd start with a 4-4-0: the WAGR R class. 24 of these were built by Dubs & Co. in the late 1800's.
