New York’s iconic libraries are neighborhood institutions. I was proud to support our investments in our City’s public libraries at the Inwood Public Library, joining @NYCMayor and @nypl President Tony Marx. Watch my full remarks:

20+ years of warehousing these buildings by the same family. Property paid for, commercial rental pays the taxes so they are in no rush to bring units online. No way this should be allowed to continue. We need every unit we can get!!!!!.
There are hundreds of vacant buildings in NYC. Warehousing is not allowed in NYC is it? @DianaAyalaNYC @ReynosoBrooklyn @MarkLevineNYC @RepEspaillat @RepEspaillat @jessicaramos @democracynow @NYCCouncil @JuanMaBenitez

I'd like to know what the consequence for the racially motivated attack of a latino from the Bronx received at the hands of the guardian angels last night will be @NYPDPC. He was assulted on live tv after being mistaken for a migrant because he spoke "Spanish". @CurtisSliwa.

Nope! @NYCMayor.* many low income already approved housing ulurps sitting in wait for years. Why?.* office of income discrimination was not properly funded or staffed.* individuals are losing already identified units because HRA is taking forever to process applications/payments.
Housing has always been at the heart of the American dream. But the current lack of affordable housing is placing that dream out of reach for far too many. This administration is taking action across the board:

1. @dr_yusefsalaam never once mentioned race/color. 2. Officer introduced himself 1st and CM Salaam identified himself in response. 3. CM never said officer behaved badly, just that he was not told why he was stopped which is true. Let's not do this.
No @dr_yusefsalaam. What this experience amplifies is how you lied, are potentially committing insurance fraud, using the race card, as well as using your status as Councilmember to evade the law. The officer did everything by the book, and was nothing but extra nice to you. What.

Evicting families with children only to have them go directly to an intake center to be placed someplace else for an additional 30-60 days and repeat the process is not good policy. It's cruel and harmful to children. This atrocity will be your legacy.
Every person, no matter the country they come from, has the fundamental right to seek asylum, protection, and safety in the United States. We can’t turn our backs on our Newest New Yorkers. @NYCMayor – eliminate the 30 and 60 day shelter stay rules, and lead with compassion.

Two children in my district with needle stick injury after coming in contact with needle at local playground. I have repeatedly called out for help. Our calls fell on deaf ears. So we created a syringe buy back program that has still not been created @NYCMayor @NYCHealthCommr.

Nothing justifies this. Children will pay the consequences with their education and so much more. We cannot allow this to happen. It makes no sense!.
Migrant families will be forced to leave shelter at The Row hotel next week, under the 60-day rule. “If a family doesn’t know where they’re going to be day to day, how can they send their child to school?". My story on what's coming & a 🧵 1/x.

These are serious implications and yet not a single example of how migrants are destroying this city or putting our public safety at risk. Yes, we need border reform, but let's not use this as an opportunity to paint migrants out as criminals in our streets. That's not true!.
Mayor Eric Adams says that quality of life in NYC will continue to decline because of the illegals:. "For many months we were able to keep visualization of this crisis from hitting our streets… But we have reached a breaking point. We are no longer able to do that."

Promise NYC was a @NYCCouncil priority last yr. The initiative has been successful. Undocumented children now have access to childcare because of it and parents are able to seek employment. This program should not be on chopping block. It should be expanded Instead.
The mayor may slash a city pilot program that offers daycare and afterschool care to children without legal immigration status. Parents, advocates, and some City Council members are confused by the move. Via @ChalkbeatNY.

A member of their family is murdered in front of them, and they then are subjected to an interrogation 🤷♀️ The incensitivity and trauma of it all is unbelievable.
NEW: The family of a Queens teen fatally shot by NYPD officers said cops immediately hauled them to the local precinct and interrogated them without an attorney the day of the incident. The NYPD then barred them from their home for over two days.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but is it professional to express it on an official social media platform? 🤔 I don't think so. That is why I say what I want from my personal page and leave the work one for formalities.
“I don't think they attacked anyone” @NYCMayor says when asked about @NYPDnews @NYPDChiefPatrol and other tweets about @harrysiegel's column and other tweets. "If a columnist has a right to an opinion, a police officer has the right to an opinion.".

Good morning! Another day another 'WTF did the mayor say?'. For the record, I have an open door policy. Walk in services for the general public and super easy access when City Hall and any Commissioner who needs to speak to me needs to talk.
"Think about this, you don't just walk into a council person's office . You don't walk into your doctor's office, there's a process to meet with them," @NYCMayor says on Pix11 of the new online form his admin wants other electeds to complete to meet with agency heads.

A simple form created by @NYCMayorsOffice to "manage" communications between elected officials and City Agencies is also now required for a simple street permit. As long as I've been in government, this level of intervention has not been necessary. I mean. nothing else to do?.

I also stand with my colleague in calling on the DOE to consider a summer school approach. We want to make sure that our children and educators are safe while offering alternatives to those who need it most. A summer school approach is the only way to do both.
I support @MarkTreyger718 summer school plan. A responsible shutdown while opening sites in each borough to serve most vulnerable w/food, medical care & other services. Use school buses to transport kids & prioritize childcare for healthcare workers and those in most need.

This is definitely not the best way to begin budget negotiations.

I share your disappointment with the pause on congestion pricing, but @GovKathyHochul was right to put a "pause" on the program. Our post Covid recovery is still too fragile to be disrupted, and a pause is the right way to go. We've waited this long, a bit longer won't hurt 🙏.

Congestion pricing: $15 is too much when cost of living is still at an all time high and wages at an all time low. How will @mta ensure my district does not become a parking lot. Lifting cap on for-hire vehicles contradicts all plans to reduce vehicular traffic down down.

Comments like these lend the impression that most people in shelter do not work. That is not true. The truth is that many of those families/singles are forced to work low wage jobs which render them unable to keep up with increasing rents. 🤷♀️.
Mayor Adams sounding very much like he would supports a work requirement for shelter eligibility in NYC, saying that you can right now stay in city's care "even if you are not working" before adding: "There are many New Yorkers that join me to say this is not fair to taxpayers.".

We can obtain these resources while also improving conditions for incarcerated people. This plan is NOT an expansion plan, it is a decarceration plan unlike any other in our country.
@DianaAyalaNYC We know what the community is asking for because WE ARE the community. We are organizers and residents from the Bronx. YES, we want those resources. We need those resources. We do NOT need a jail to get them. #CellOut.
