(I am 6 months pregnant)
Me after ordering my coffee:
Stranger at Starbucks: you know you should be drinking decaf when you’re pregnant.
Me: I’m... not pregnant.
Stranger: (horrified) I am so, so sorry!
And that’s what you get for giving unsolicited advice.
Bluey referenced “mitochondria” and I immediately said to my 4yo “the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell” like a sleeper agent who just heard their activation phrase
Lots of Americans confused about Irish twitter because our Anglo-centric education taught us Ireland suffered a “famine” when it was really a British led genocide.
Explained to a 7 yo that our tv shows were only run at a specific time and if you missed it, you just missed it. After processing this horror she asked “but you could find it on your iPad?” What followed was the millennial version of “in my day I walked miles barefoot to school”
The Brits were exporting Ireland’s crops while the Irish literally starved to death. There are over 70 million people around the world with Irish heritage because their ancestors were forced to leave their homeland or starve with the rest.
@DenaeEdgeEdge
When you’re pregnant it’s strange enough to lose so much of your body autonomy to the baby, but then everyone else confirms it’s no longer your body as well. It’s the worst part about being pregnant.
If you have an Irish ancestor, chances are they departed from the port of Cobh, this was the last glimpse of Ireland they would ever see. So many around the world are victims of imperialism; we cannot forget and must fight for truth. “The past is never dead. It's not even past.”
“I am haunted by the human chimpanzees I saw along that hundred miles of horrible country… to see white chimpanzees is dreadful, if they were black one would not see it so much, but their skins, except where tanned by exposure, are as white as ours.” Charles Kingsley 1860

Great for you but the point she’s making is that people who dedicate their lives to becoming experts in a field should be paid more. Higher education isn’t for everyone, but it’s also necessary for furthering discoveries, knowledge, and education in every field.

You’re right I don’t have any concern for my baby. 🙄 I should follow the advice of random people at Starbucks instead of my doctors, midwives, and the actual research.
Thank you everyone for your support & stories! For you expectant and new mommas, I recommend these two books by
@ProfEmilyOster
. She gives you the available research and then you make your own educated decisions about your body and your baby (what a novel fucking concept!).
"Existing policies will not kill more than one million Irish in 1848 and that will scarcely be enough to do much good." - Queen Victoria's economist, Nassau Senior
Person: So, was your pregnancy planned or unplanned?
Me: You mean was the sex recreational or procreational?
Person: ....
Me: 😌
Making people uncomfortable after asking intrusive questions has become my favorite pregnancy pastime.
If you are Irish or one of the 75 million with Irish heritage, this is what the Crown did to your family: "All of them wept openly and did not want the others to go. They embraced and kissed each tenderly with loud sobs. They would tear themselves loose, run up to the gangway...
"The British created the conditions of dire hopelessness and desperate dependence on the potato through a series of sadistic, debasing, and premeditated Penal Laws, which deliberately and systematically stripped the Irish of even a semblance of basic human freedom." James Sweeney
"What has held back this beautiful country for so long is the neglect and oppression practiced by the upper-class which, instead of investing their wealth in agriculture as they do in England, drew off their money from the country and squandered it in London."German travel writer

It's the first time the subway system has been shut down and not offered 24 hour service, not the first time its been clean. Critical thinking and a little google search go a long way. Even before this cars were cleaned after every nightly service.
The London Times, September 1864: "For our parts, we regard the potato blight as a blessing. When the Celts cease to be potato eaters, they must become carnivorous."
"The once hardy population worn away to emaciated skeletons. Hundreds frantically rushing from their homes and country, not with the idea of making fortunes in other lands, but to flee from the scene of suffering and death." - Cork Examiner 1846
and stand weeping, looking once more at their own people and the beloved mountains. Their hearts breaking, they had to run back to shore to their loved ones remaining and embrace them once more. All of one side of the ship was a scene of lamentation and weeping."Knut Clement 1839
"I asked one of these immigrants why they were all leaving their fatherland? Ah, sir, he replied, the landlord has driven us from our cottages because we couldn't pay the high rent he demanded, and with that, he began to weep even louder." German travel writer

They bought a 2 million dollar house and put their kid into a $24,000 a year preschool, but millennials are irresponsible with their money for splurging on avocados. 🙄
@NatashaFatale3
I don’t care if I’m crowning in front of you, if you’re not my doctor, it’s none of your business! It’s insane how people treat you when you’re pregnant, I knew it would be bad, but it’s waaaay worse!! I feel like I’m constantly being spoken to like I’m a child myself.
@DLoesch
My Mama was the epitome of a loving and affectionate grandmother, but never baked me a cookie... because she hated baking. It’s sad your kid picked up on your own internalized misogyny and thinks an older woman should be sitting around baking cookies in order to not be “cold”.
@MattWalshBlog
I say this without exaggeration. If I had been forced to carry my rapists baby I would have used a coat hanger to get it out of me and would have accepted that death could be a consequence. You should be ashamed and I hope to God you don’t have daughters.
@blktinabelcher
I do remember my twenties being like stumbling around a dark room frantically looking for the light switch. I’m back in the dark again, but instead of stumbling, I’m exploring. You’ll find your footing 💜

After watching the documentary I still get upset over what happened to Amy Winehouse and what she went through. And what a tragic loss to music, she was unlike anyone else. Robin Williams and Chris Cornell also gutted me.
@JackieMackay17
Elizabeth’s great-great grandmother. Never any acknowledgment of the crown’s crimes or restitution to the people who suffered directly at their hands. And that’s why people are so pissed, how do you get over what was never made right?
If you think you had a hard 2023, there are a million people in Times Square freezing their asses off with no water, booze, or BATHROOMS pretending like this wasn’t the worst mistake they ever made in their lives
@blktinabelcher
I’m 38 and if people in their 40s want to do the same that would be great 😂 I left the only career I’ve ever known at 36 and went back to school, I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing! That hasn’t changed. But not being so worried about “having it figured out” has.
@charmcitybirder
Not acknowledging or seeking reconciliation for sins of the past, which a still divided Ireland still lives with today, is being complicit. The British empire still lives on and the Crown monetarily benefits.

And I’m not buying it for a second that the kind of people who are cool with dropping 25k on nursery school are shopping at Old Navy. Nope. But I feel terrible that they had to cut costs and not buy the Range Rover. We should really start a Go Fund Me for them.

How about “wife of the year” went through two days of labor while having to endure self absorbed husband seeking internet fame. That’s a better take

No wonder white people are so angry and clinging to their guns after listening for years to this kind of speech. I have anxiety after a few minutes, imagine listening every day for years?
@licoricewhip
Thank god you didn't leave! She would have lost the opportunity to clarify and be absolutely stewing in anxiety right now, in the future every once in awhile she would randomly remember and a wave of anxiety would wash over her as if it just happened... Or is that just me?!

Teaching children about weight loss instead of how to have a healthy relationship with food and exercise is so damaging. I feel terrible for any child who has this put upon them.

It IS totally invasive! It’s strange enough you have a foreign being INSIDE of you using you as a punching bag and play room, then everyone else is touching you from the outside!

This just caused a repressed memory to surface of when I went into Cartier to try on the diamond rolling ring for funsies and it wouldn’t roll back off and it took four sales associates, a bucket of ice, a bottle of windex, and any remaining dignity I had to get it off.

My family and I got on a free boat ride in Santorini. Didn’t realize until they were asking for passports that it was headed back to a cruise ship.

I'm going to be working on my doctorate, I also have dressed really provocatively and I'm not ashamed. This just pushes the narrative women are Madonnas or Whores and it's a sexist narrative. I'm just so tired of having to tell progressives there's nothing progressive about this.

I’m on the road a lot for work and listen in on some conservative talk radio, and it’s horrifying, but also makes the larger context we’re in make so much more sense. They have been brainwashed for decades on anger highs and paranoia binges.

I accidentally friend requested my ex's new girlfriend JUST AS THE TRAIN WENT UNDERGROUND. The level of panic I felt, unable to take it away. I got off at the next stop (not my stop) to get above ground, un-requested, and then made a lame public post that I had been hacked.
I am a 1, I also have an internal narrator, vivid daydreams where I can tune out what’s going around me but stay unconsciously cognizant, regular lucid dreams I am the main character and director of. These all must be linked, right?

I thought of this one in the shower a few weeks ago after I started showing and got a barrage of unwanted “advice” and vowed I would use it when I was over it. Today was that day.

In case you don't realize, that's the era of Greatness they want to return to. When mediocre white men ruled the roost and women and minorities knew their place. It's very Mad Men.
