In Dartmoor folklore, the nine maidens were women turned into stone and cursed to dance every noon for eternity as punishment for dancing on the Sabbath. It's been suggested the tale originates from the shimmering midday heat giving the illusion of movement.

🎃 Thousands of pumpkins get thrown away in the UK after Halloween, some sadly get dumped in the woods.
Pumpkins can make wildlife such as hedgehogs ill if they eat them. Compost it at home, or if your area has a food waste collection, put it there.

It will now return as the only place in England where wild camping is allowed.
Tiddy House in Exeter is one of the last of the old buildings to survive in Tudor Street, on Exe Island.
It is something of an enigma, for it is uncertain when it was built. English Heritage date it to the late 16th Century, without giving any evidence.
This medieval house, believed to have been built around 1450, was moved in 1961 by 220 feet, to be saved from demolition.
Hence the name, The house that moved! It still stands as one of the greatest feats of engineering of its kind.
