On 29th January 2024 at 12.04pm my world fell apart.
Fiona was my everything. My soul mate.
If you do anything after reading this post, please hold your loved ones a little tighter for a little longer, because you never know when the last time could be ❤️
There'll never be another day when life will feel 'normal'
Losing someone you love, who is more yourself than you are.
Someone who captured your heart and held tight to your future will forever be a devastating experience.
Fiona was my world, my future
And now she's gone 💔
@DermotKennedy
Hi Dermot, I'm unsure if you'll see this message, but I felt compelled to write to it. My partner, Fiona, passed away yesterday at the age of 36. She was one of your most ardent fans. We attended your concert at Marley Park on 23rd June 2023, and you gave us the
1 year ago today, a DR told Fiona that she had Sciatica. She didn't. She had stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma.
She died 6 months later.
Fiona was neglected by the NHS at every turn.
💔
A few points worth noting about PKs time at Coleraine.
✅ Parents supported without interfering
✅ Been at the club since he was 5..no hoping between 10 clubs or looking for the next 'fad' to sign up to
✅ In and out Club NI at a young age, never complained. Just played football
"I'm lost in this nothingness
This emptiness
That others call living"
Fiona fought against the cancer with every Fiber of her being. Her resilience and positivity throughout was astonishing.
She was and will always be my everything ❤️
My girl 💔
She deserved more from this world
Or maybe she was too good for it
A special, special person
A heart of gold
A love for life not replicated by anyone I've ever met.
Caring beyond what others thought possible
Selfless to the extreme.
A dark but joyus sense of humor.
My girl 💔
Her request was to meet you. Although she never lived long enough to find out if that wish was to be granted, I feel some kind of solace in messaging you today, on her behalf.
Your lyrics touched Fiona's soul deeply.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you ❤️
Gary
If ever there's a summer when we just can't be together
There'll be half of me where light's not gettin' in
I'll see that photo I took of you with the blossom tree above you
And I'll just be glad I loved you like I did.

My wish is for

4 Weeks without you 💔
She was a rare thing
Fine as a beeswing
And I miss her more than ever words could say
If I could just taste
All of her wildness now
If I could hold her in my arms today
Then I wouldn't want her any other way

Record the voice note or take the video. Grief will snatch the sound of their laughter from your ears. But it'll never take away how it made you feel.

most magical night. Your words resonate on a level like no other artist. It's almost like you're writing from my personal perspective and experiencing the hurt & love that I am.
Fiona had been asked by the Willow Foundation to think of something that she would like to do.
That video is my most precious memory of us at
@DermotKennedy
concert at Marley Park in Dublin on 23rd June 2023. It was a truly wonderful evening. She radiates happiness, warmth and love in this video. All those things and more, where what I had the pleasure of experiencing ❤️
"Today, I sat with grief
And talked about you
It showed me nothing but darkness
Not your face
Nor could I hear your voice
Today, I sat with grief
And it took everything from me"
I've written over 50 short poems since Fiona passed on 29/01/24.
Everyone, meaningful & raw 💔
Delighted to kick off preparations for this Summers
@SuperCupNI
by announcing my appointment as Junior Squad Manager for County L/Derry for the second year in a row.(U14)
Looking forward to getting started! ❤️⚽️
A love so intense I often say that we loved each other aggressively
Not in the physical sense
But by a look
A smile
A smirk
The touch of a hand
A love that couldn't be ignored
That never faded
That will last forever
My girl 💔
Fighting the urge.
Is it socially acceptable for a 36 year old to spend his evenings and weekends playing FM?
Between 2007-2010, i placed more importance on FM than my degree 🤦♂️🤣
How about this for motivation on a dull Friday morning...👊
In class this morning, preparing notes for today's lessons.
At 8.40am I see 3 students step on to the pitch with a bag of balls for some additional practice before class starts at 9.30am. ❤️⚽️👏
@ColeraineFC
I've delivered 1000s of team talks in huddles over the years.
None more emotional than this one.
This is more than a team talk in a huddle.
This is a team supporting a teammate in the most tragic and difficult of circumstances. ❤️
When death took you by the hand
I held you with the other
And promised to find you in every life time"
Rest easy my girl 💔
*Thank you to everyone who has messaged, it has been overwhelming to say the least but also comforting at the same time*
It's not easy to forget how I loved you
But I really don't want anybody else
I'd give anythin' to see those eyes
I won't forget the lesson that I learned that night

Dermots voice, lyrics, and melodies are the soundtrack to our relationship. 1/5
Fiona was discharged as a cancer patient on 26/10/21. Although we found out that it had returned in early Sept '23, we got the news on 16/09/23 that it was terminal 💔
Please, if you or a loved one are in a similar situation, fight for regular checkups even after discharge🙌
When i got my A Licence i felt fantastic.. Like it was an achievement worth celebrating.
Now i realise coaching is more about the richness and connection between coach and athlete that leads to real development.

Dream - Plan- Fail- Learn - Overcome- Achieve...
And then start all over again.
In 2003 it was a Dream, in 2020 it has become a reality. 17 years, and I've loved every minute.. Here's to the next 17. 💪
Since Fiona took her last breath, I've found much comfort in writing

✔️ Patience in build up
✔️ Constant Midfield Rotations

I have genuine admiration for anyone who runs/coaches at kids holiday football camps. 👏
I done it for a few years in a previous job and know how draining they can be.
Too often skills needed to coach at those events are undervalued by the sport/football industry.
Game prep vs High Press.
An example of a function of play from this season working on:
👉 Patience to create overloads
👉 Use GK as spare man
👉 Play out via weak side
👉 Dominate Possession.

I wrote this as part of a poem in '21
I posted it on Instagram on 31/12/23 as Fiona and I spent the night in the Cancer Care Unit.
Fiona asleep in her bed, I was asleep on a camp bed in her room.

I recently had a convo with a coach and he complemented our style of play. But then asked 'do you change it when you're losing'
The answer is no.
Here we are at 2-1 down. You can hear the oppo coach shout 'when it goes short put the press on' then 'it doesn't go back'

This morning, I received a package from Dermot that contained items of merchandise. He could've stopped there, but he didn't. He wrote a personal letter to me, which I'm keeping off Socials for now, that touched my soul.

With so many Irish League clubs now having appointed Youth and Senior Academy Directors, is there a market for an Academies Director Forum/Association?

Directors get together to help drive the youth game forward?

You don't always get what you deserve in life and football is no different.

Part two of our coaches coffee chat from Saturday 😀
On Saturday we hosted our very first Online Coaches Coffee morning. This is something that we hope to run every Saturday until Football returns. ⚽❤️
If you'd like to take part, send us a DM with your email address 👍
At the start of preseason we asked
@ColeraineFC
U16s for 3 things:
1) Trust yourself
2) Trust each other
3) Invite pressure & play around it.
It was a pleasure watching them y'day.
Yes we need to work on the final ball, but we need to get the ball there 1st.

I get it. It's a quick way to make a few £ but the latest 1 on 1 training fad we're seeing in football, comprisesing of copious amounts
isolated, repetitive unoppsed practices is overkill.
Too many parents are blinded by fancy all signing all dancing tricks flicks and fancy kit
I'm reading so much s**t being branded about recently with regards to football, here's a few:
1) Onset/off set triangles
2) Vertical and horizontal incision passing
3) Playing a 'false' CB
If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it enough.
He not only inspired a generation of players, but he invested his time providing opportunities for young coaches like me, throughout the country.
His influence is ever lasting and his memory ever enduring through everyone who had the pleasure meet him.
Thank you Wes ❤️⚽️

Sometimes it's about more than Football.
In Jan a youth team came to the showgrounds to watch a Coleraine FC U16s training session. U16s captain Luke Dennison spoke to the young players about his experience playing at NIFL and the extra work he does to stay fit.
