@tonyworldvision I'm organising a panel session at Anticipation 24 on Robert Rosen's legacy, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his death and 40th anniversary of the publication of Anticipatory Systems. Would you perhaps be interested in participating?

Before #COVID19, when was the last #coronavirus #pandemic? Some have argued for 1889-1892 for the zoonosis of human #OC43 from bovine coronavirus, but in our new paper: we suggest 1899-1900, based on a review and replication of existing molecular data.

@BBCRadio3 Thanks for playing the beautiful "Dolencias" in yesterday's Essential Classics. When listening again on BBC Sounds, the song's author was given as "Anon." In fact it was written by Victor Valencia (1894-1966) from Machachi, Ecuador, and is an example of an "albazo".

How did the "English Sweat" live on in the popular imagination after its last outbreak in 1551? (apart from in #WolfHall) Some ideas: from #EEBO using #CQPweb, #digitalhumanities #EnglishSweat #SudorAnglicus #SweatingSickness #Tudor

Today is the 35th anniversary of the acceptance of my first paper: "Assignment of the #gene for #dyskeratosis congenita to Xq28". The mid-80s were a tremendously exciting time in human #genetics. #Mendelian loci of all sorts were being located via #RFLP.

Our conclusion is that there does not seem to have been an unexplained #respiratory #pandemic in the 19th century (or at least none that were not labelled #influenza at the time -1830, 1848, 1890). In particular there was no #COVID-like event evident in newspaper reports. 7/end
