🌍 If we don’t take action, 150 million people could be living with dementia by 2050—enough to circle the Earth over 6 times! Share to alert people of this staggering fact. Now is the time to invest in research, early diagnosis, and lifestyle changes to slow this trajectory. Join us in the fight! #DementiaAwareness #BrainHealth #EndDementia #alzheimers #lewybody #vasculardementia

Technically, not correct. There are multiple factors clearly shown to dramatically increase the risk of dementia, and other factors shown to dramatically decrease the risk of dementia. There are other factors/interventions shown to reduce the rates of converting from a Mild Cognitive Impairment to a diagnosis of dementia or Alzheimer’s. Therefore, it is not a matter of “we are helpless” but more a matter of “are people educated and making good decisions before dementia starts.” With a sample size of 1, people will never know for sure if following the recommendations delayed the onset for an individual/parent. Refusing to believe research findings and spreading uneducated information harms people.
@DementiaLeague Nothing can stop the disease and this must be faced. To this date there is no known cause nor cure. My dad was fit and healthy. My gran developed dementia after she had surgery for a broken leg at age 89. It is not helpful to imply lifestyle plays a role.

Noticing a loved one becoming forgetful or struggling during phone calls? 🤔📞 If you're concerned about their memory, consider these steps: 1️⃣ Talk to their family & suggest a neuropsychological evaluation to assess memory & thinking. 2️⃣ If needed, and with their permission, attend the appointment to share observations with the doctor. 3️⃣ Ensure their doctor rules out medical causes & reviews medications for proper management. Early action makes a difference! 💙 #MemoryCare #DementiaAwareness #Alzheimers #Dementia

Agree.
Dementia is cruel and does not care about your past, your achievements, or your skin. To beat it we must understand it. To understand it we must study it. To study it we must be patient. To be patient we must have faith. Repost if you agree. #endalz #alzheimers

That sucks. Sorry to hear about your sister. 💜 Maybe she pushed it back 5-10 years? But we hear you, it is possible that for a percentage of people it might be inevitable at some point. Generic conditions increase the risk. What we know for sure is that these strategies reduce risk—so they either stop it, avoid it (eg virus), or delay it.

@pageturner73 We can’t respond to DM’s that we did not initiate because we would be swamped, and there would be a risk of inappropriate communications. It’s a big world out there so we have to have guidelines.

What is an Anticholinergic Medication? Anticholinergic medications block the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that helps regulate memory, attention, and muscle movements. These drugs are commonly prescribed for conditions like overactive bladder, allergies, depression, and Parkinson’s disease, but long-term use has been linked to cognitive decline and dementia. How They Work Acetylcholine is crucial for brain function and memory. Anticholinergics block acetylcholine, reducing its effects on the nervous system.
