Chinese soldiers were recently spotted using catastrophic flamethrowers on simulated targets during training. The Type 74 flamethrower, with a 45-meter range, unleashes intense heat capable of melting flesh. Despite its lighter design and improved bunker-busting power, it still packs a serious recoil, requiring the operator to fire from a prone position. This weapon has been used in past operations, including a high-profile 2015 mission in Xinjiang.

Several drone fragments were found on Komsomolsky Prospekt in the center of Moscow, not far from the Defense Ministry’s main headquarters, a source in the emergency services told TASS news agency. The department of transportation said that traffic in the area was partially restricted, advising residents to plan detour routes. The Russian Defense Ministry said in a brief statement that it had prevented an “attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack using two unmanned aerial vehicles” on Monday morning.

Last week, Iran unveiled its new laser-powered air defense system. Dubbed Seraj, this system was launched during a military exercise, in response to the growing threat of Israeli air strikes on its nuclear facilities. The system was reportedly deployed at the Fordow uranium enrichment site, a key location in Iran’s nuclear program. While its full specifications remain secret, laser-based systems are becoming increasingly popular for their cost-effective ability to target aerial threats, with Iran now jumping on board.

NATO has launched the "Baltic Sentry" mission in response to a series of sabotage incidents targeting underwater infrastructure in the Baltic Sea earlier this month. The operation includes frigates, submarines, naval drones, and surveillance aircraft. It aims to enhance security and send a strong message against potential threats in the region. Finland, Estonia, and Sweden are contributing warships and surveillance resources, while other NATO members are expected to join in as needed. The mission also highlights Finland’s approach to detaining vessels suspected of sabotaging infrastructure, which could set a precedent for future actions.

The U.S. Navy is preparing for a potential conflict with China over Taiwan by 2027. The Chief of Naval Operations has set a goal to ensure that 80% of the Navy is surge-ready, meaning they can rapidly deploy ships for combat in a crisis. The Navy is also incorporating unmanned vessels into its fleet, with some already actively patrolling the seas. However, these plans face challenges, especially when it comes to funding from Congress. Without a larger budget, the Navy might face strategic limitations. All of this is just a preparation scenario and the budgeting decisions made in the coming years will determine how ready the Navy is for the challenges of 2027.

North Korea recently revealed images of its largest warship under construction, equipped with advanced features like a vertical launch system and stealth technology. This frigate, over 100 meters long, aims to enhance Pyongyang's maritime capabilities and fill gaps in its naval defenses. If completed with planned systems, it could position North Korea among nations with modern naval technologies. However, experts note its fleet still lags behind major powers, and North Korea's technology remains decades behind in terms of reliability and operational effectiveness.
