My daughter and B/f could afford a mortgage 5x their joint salaries and have saved a deposit but where they need to live to be in the middle of their jobs (London & Luton), the property prices need about 8x salary.

We, of the generation who didn’t have that option but had the option to move out as it was more affordable are now still supporting this younger generation.

@jdtdsd1173489 @tws4042 @GBNEWS He absolutely is. If any of my kids try that, we put them straight. I know my kids are grateful for any help we give them. Mostly the financial advice is enough, we have encouraged them to work and save from mid teens.

@youmustbegrumpy @tws4042 @GBNEWS I think you are tarring them all with the same brush and what you see/hear on platforms like this and the media isn’t the norm. Among all my kids peers there are barely any that aren’t grafting. So from a personal perspective I don’t see the kind of young people you mention.

@rtsrichard @GBNEWS I agree with this. Our son who started a degree apprenticeship at 18 is the only one who is in a position to actually buy a flat. We are helping by providing some collateral but he is renting a room to a colleague to help affordability. Helps him and the mate out.
