Turning this award into the young player meeting expectations that most people already had for him award is a shame.
Coby White had a textbook MIP season.
Tyrese Maxey is the heavy favorite to win Most Improved Player, per
@BovadaOfficial
Tyrese Maxey (PHI) -1500
Coby White (CHI) +800
Jalen Williams (OKC) +7500
Jonathan Kuminga (GSW) +15000

Your point guard has to guard Jalen Brunson. Your wings are being covered by Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby. Your center is trying to rotate to a Brunson floater while keeping Mitchell Robinson off the glass. Your 4 isn’t strong enough for Julius Randle.
The Knicks are a nightmare
If NYK and IND close out their respective 1st round series:
2013 Knicks: Melo 28.7 PPG
2024 Knicks: Brunson 28.7 PPG
2013 Knicks: 2 seed
2024 Knicks: 2 seed
2013 Knicks 2nd round opponent: IND
2024 Knicks 2nd round opponent: IND
Time to rewrite history.
If the Knicks don’t make the trade up to 4 because Quickley was a dealbreaker and then Quickley checks into the season opener with 1:28 remaining in the first quarter that’ll make me very angry.
Donovan Mitchell was an All-Star averaging 26/5/4 until there was a risk that the Knicks might trade some valuable assets for him.
Now he’s just an undersized chucker who’s so bad defensively he’ll sink the entire franchise! Just crazy how that works.
Obi Toppin is a name to watch on the trade market, per
@SBondyNYDN
“A source said Toppin was frustrated at times with his role, although he refrained from complaining to the media.”

Jalen Brunson is the best Knicks point guard since 2 weeks of Jeremy Lin in 2012 and 54 games of Raymond Felton in 2010. This is a really nice moment for Knicks fans.
The way MIP is going, it wouldn’t be surprising if Wemby won this next year. He’ll go from 21 PPG to 26 PPG and be a leading candidate like we weren’t already saying he was the best prospect ever, a DPOY candidate as a rookie, and the potential GOAT.
@PhillyGod4
Expectations coming into this year. If James Wiseman becomes an above average starting center next year he’ll deserve consideration because no one is expecting that. Coby White becoming borderline all-star quality is a more unexpected jump than Maxey’s leap.
Shaq: "Playoffs all about energy…I never even heard of this Deuce McBride kid but when you say 51 points (in the series), that's nothing but energy to me"
The Jazz need a SG who can communicate better with Gobert. Someone who can speak his language on and off the court. As a lifelong Jazz fan it’s clear this team needs Evan Fournier
“I watch some of these other teams like the Suns or Warriors, those guys are a step ahead of us in terms of winning habits…Devin Booker is playing his ass off defensively…Guys like that, they buy in,and you can tell they take pride in playing defense”

Joel Embiid has played in all 4 games, averaging 35 PPG. Hobbled, unable to defend at his usual level, sure.
Julius Randle (24/9/5) is out entirely. When the Knicks win this series the narrative will be that the Sixers were more disadvantaged by injuries.
That’s not the case.
Tobias Harris was born in New York. Mo Bamba was born in New York. Sixers assistant Rico Hines spent 6 years as an assistant coach at St. John’s University in…New York.
The Knicks have several moles within the Sixers operation 😳
Game 3 Crew Chief: Zach Zarba🤦♂️
Zach Zarba was born in New York. He went to HS and College in New York, and currently resides in New York. Sounds familiar.
Mitchell Robinson makes $14.3M for the 2024-25 season and $12.9M in 2025-26. Less than half of what Isaiah Hartenstein will be getting in OKC.
He’s the best offensive rebounder in the league and one of the best rim protectors in the world.
There was a time where the Knicks signed Ramon Sessions and I said ahh he had some nice moments for the Charlotte Bobcats maybe this is the answer.
Now we have a PG who scores 40 once a week.
Donovan Mitchell is a top 3 SG at worst, I have him 2nd behind Devin Booker. We have to acknowledge how rare it is for the Knicks to have a shot at someone like this.
The man who just won the dunk contest is 6’9 and shoots 22.6% from three. Naturally, Tom Thibodeau uses him as a floor stretching 4 while Taj Gibson or Nerlens Noel screen and roll
A trade of Randle and draft picks for Ayton would consolidate the roster beautifully.
Brunson/IQ/RJ/Obi/Ayton is such a ridiculously fun lineup to me, I’m mad that I even let my mind go there because now I need it.
Extending Deuce the moment IQ got dealt and before he even got into the rotation was just so sharp. They knew what they had.
He’s worth 4X this deal and I hope his next contract reflects that but a massive steal for the Knicks.
New York Knicks guard Miles McBride has agreed on a three-year, $13 million contract extension, Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman of
@PrioritySports
tell ESPN. McBride was the 36th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

The first line of this is “in a month, this was my favorite album.” Why should you go through the process of interviewing someone and disrespect them with a clickbait headline
RJ Barrett has finally gotten above his scoring average from last season. In 2020-21 he averaged 17.6 ppg, now up to 17.9 ppg this year after the slow start
RJ Barrett played 41 games in 2022 and averaged 23.6 ppg. That’s not a hot streak, it’s just what he was once the offensive hierarchy shifted in his favor. I’m taking him over Herro 95 times out of 10 and I have zero fear that it’s a take that won’t age well.
Please forgive me for putting this out there
RJ is out tomorrow which means that if there are no trades by the afternoon deadline, the Knicks would start:
Kemba, Fournier, Burks, Randle, Taj
Quentin Grimes is better than Cam Reddish right now and is the better fit next to Jalen Brunson and RJ Barrett. Hoping Cam is able to show out this year but Grimes seems to be the bigger priority of the coaching staff and rightfully so.
You trade for Donovan Mitchell so that when he’s 30 you have a 25 year old RJ Barrett. They shouldn’t consider trading RJ in this deal and I doubt they are, he’s too important to the present and future of this team in any direction it goes.
After RJ Barrett, the Knick I’m most comfortable penciling in as a long term starter for this team is Quentin Grimes. If I could pick 2 current Knicks as starters next year and beyond it would be Grimes and RJ at the 2 and 3
RJ Barrett:
50 minutes on Saturday
43 minutes on Monday
35 minutes on Tuesday (in a game that was a blowout by the 2Q)
He left the court with an injury with 30 seconds left down by 20
James Dolan is doing all this futuristic shit with Sphere when he needs to be pouring that money into creating a sophisticated Clyde Frazier AI to keep calling Knicks games until I am 90 years old.
@rogusports
Alright so James Wiseman should be better than Tyrese Haliburton next year right? It’s about the expectations coming into the season. It’s the 2023-24 most improved player.
Cam Reddish should not be cutting into Grimes’ playing time. My favorite aspect of the trade is that we now have another 3&D guy who has the size and length to slide RJ and Grimes onto smaller players. All three need to be playing significant minutes
This is not a very good roster, but it’s not a 3-17 over a 20 game stretch roster. Whole idea with Thibs was that he’d grind out extra wins by burning his starters/vets. Instead, we’re getting plain bad coaching on a nightly basis
“Elfrid Payton is a liability defensively. He gambles, he’s a space cadet. I think he’s overrated defensively.”
- Zach Lowe, while saying there isn’t much of a downgrade from Elfrid to Kemba on defense
If Kemba plays as well this year as Derrick Rose did last year that’s already a win. People don’t realize how much better the Knicks would’ve been with 48 minutes of a Rose level contributor at PG
