The center of Cyclone #FREDDY is closer to Nsanje, #Malawi as captured by @eumetsat satellite 1903hrs Malawi local time. Most areas are reporting very strong winds as trees are falling blocking some roads & some rivers are full. Alot of rains and strongest winds are yet to come.

Be informed that Tropical Cyclone FREDDY entered Malawi yesterday on 12 March, 2023 through Nsanje. As of now on 13 March, 2023the Cyclone is spinning over Southern Malawi.

Be informed that Cyclone Dingani developed in the Indian Ocean last month in February and dissipated without affecting Malawi. As of 18TH March, 2023, there are no Cyclones in the Indian Ocean. We urge everyone to only consider official updates from DCCMS.

As winter season in Malawi is still ongoing we are advised to continue wearing warm clothing. Another wave of CHIPERONI is expected from Monday evening. Very cold conditions were observed last week and the lowest temperature of 6°C was reported from Mzuzu Airport on 28 July 2023.

Satellite image Captures Kamvuluvulu that allegedly damaged some infrastructure in Chiradzulu on 26 March, 2023. The storm developed due to a convergence easterlies & south easterlies which caused a vortex to develop. Its a natural phenomenon that occurs without human influence.

As of today on 31ST March, 2023, there are no Cyclones in the Indian Ocean that are threatening MALAWI. But people in lakeshore districts and parts of northern areas are advised to be extra careful as threat of flash flood will remain high due to heavy rains caused by ITCZ.
