My day.
I’m painting legendary bassist Andrew Venson for a City of Austin TEMPO public art project. It’s part of a larger multimedia piece.
@mobleywho
came up with the idea and invited
@adrian_sux
and me to paint. The piece will be on view later this year.
We're beyond excited to unveil this bus wrap celebrating

I’m honored that
@jackievenson
asked me to create a painting for her new album art!
The piece is “To Yourself,” acrylic and gold leaf on canvas, 30x30 inches. It’s the cover for Jackie Venson’s “Evolution of Joy” album.
My solo window show “Burden of Respectability” opened today at Dimension Gallery in Austin. The show includes headpieces made of copper chains and gemstones. There is also a painting made of acrylic and copper leaf.
My headpieces made of copper and gemstones are on view at Dimension Gallery for my window exhibition “Burden of Respectability.” It’s socially distant and can be visited 24/7. On view through Dec. 6.
Camping in my home for the past couple of days. We’re now up to 21 degrees F, with a wind chill of 16 in Austin, Texas. Still dealing with power outages across the city and state.
Since my artist talk had to be canceled due to the outbreak... I’m going to live stream it on Instagram Monday, March 23 at 7pm! I’ll be taking over South Dallas Cultural Center’s page all day. (link below)
If you follow me, you probably already know that my art was on episodes of Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 2. Below is my “Effacement” painting, seen in S2 E15. In this thread, I’ll highlight some of the Black artists whose work was featured on the show. 🧵 /1

I’m gonna be honest with you. I feel like crap. I’ve let bad habits flourish during the pandemic, and I have very little energy.
I have a lot of stuff I need to do, but I’m not functioning at 100%. But today is a new day and a chance to start fresh.
I just found out my paintings are part of a photography challenge where people are interpreting my art through food. Here are some of my favorites. What do you think? (painting by me, photo by

Paintings from my “Deconstructed Vixens” series. Gold leaf dates back to ancient Egypt, and was held sacred. Since in music videos, women are often stripped of their value beyond their bodies, I wanted to surround them in gold. While parts are obscured, they’re still held sacred.
Tonight at midnight, my new record Evolution of Joy, goes live to the world. This is me and my band at our absolute best. It's the culmination of such a long journey and the beginning of a brand new one. To be here, after what we've all been through, I feel overwhelmed with joy.
Congratulations to Austin-based artists Elizabeth Hudson, Alexis Hunter, and Elisha Luckett on their art exhibition opening at the
@CarverMuseumATX
! They created this work during the Small Black Museum Residency Project.
I’m thrilled to have my painting chosen as the cover art for the UK edition of Akwaeke Emezi’s debut poetry collection "Content Warning: Everything," with

Here’s an update on my experiment with making an NFT as a non-digital artist. The effort has materialized into a new series called “Freaks & Beams,” that will be released on
@niftygateway
on June 1.
Whoever collects an NFT will also receive the matching physical painting.
