Want to blow Y3 minds with perimeter without books or photocopying?🤯📏
You need:
-Children
-Trees
-String
-Rulers
…seeing 😮 when a seemingly small leaf had a perimeter of 75cm was brilliant! Great concept intro & way to make it stick that perimeter is a measurable distance!
4️⃣5️⃣ seconds on UKS2 fractions with Numicon
Converting between mixed numbers & improper fractions is quite possibly my favourite use of Numicon shapes.
Every child can succeed by breaking it down to a question every child can answer: how many pegs?
This is how I ❤️ to do it👇🏼

Generalise: symbol opens up to number w/ greatest value

💬Finding the words to talk in Maths💬
Seen such a difference by providing vocab to scaffold discussions
We can be hesitant to give the lang in fear of giving answer. But they still need to be able to select & apply!
⏱ Rcaps to assess knowledge retention & push for precision
Couldn’t have said it better myself. A buzzing maths lesson today ... we converted between mixed numbers and improper fractions. By the end of the lesson the children were confidently adapting the

Listening heroes & villains
As adults, we know listening is more than just having our 👀and👂peeled!
But do they?
I want my chn to recognise listening styles and habits to encourage thoughtful & productive discussions (with the help of some familiar faces 📚)
Happy to share😊
🪜KS2 fractions: low floor high ceiling🪜
❤️ finding a task that all can access, unlocks & makes links between so many concepts! This is one of those.
⭐️Unit & non unit fractions
⭐️Making a whole

Will 💯 be using this for areas covered during LD when they’re back
🗣Talking multiplication & Numicon🗣
After being asked this week, I thought I’d share how Y3 have intro’d maths vocab
1️⃣Model key vocab (consistent colour coding helps)
2️⃣Give chn time to practically & orally rehearse
3️⃣Stem sentences gradually faded as move from novice👉🏼expert
Same & different: building strategic thinking 💭🤔
1️⃣Nursery: cover the board
“Too big! Too small!”
2️⃣EYFS: cover the board in a repeating pattern
3️⃣Y5: cover the board using red & purple
“I used five 9s because 9x5 is 45, then eleven 5s because 11x5 is 55 & the total is 100!”

These lift the flap creations were the perfect format for us to summarise the creation story in RE today.
The children loved making them too. Something about the 3D effect really brings them to life! 😄💡
With mum and I both teachers, we’ve had 18 months of anxiety thinking we wouldn’t all end up spending this day together.
Very grateful to be able to be a part of my sister and fabulous new big brother’s big day on Thursday. 💒💕
