@KatieWitkiewitz Things are picking up serious starter-pack steam over at Bluesky. If you've ever liked what was good about Twitter (as I sure did), bring it to Bluesky.

@krichard1212 The authors say: "Gender was included as a binary variable...Although there is a non-binary response option, this was not included...as the study focuses more on the biological sex differences." They don't try to explain how cognition causes biological sex differences.

@Megarittz Last I heard, it's still more of a West Coast thing (doi 10.1016/j.drugalcdep.2024.111419), but that's a couple years old. We'll soon be doing a study here in Baltimore where we'll ask.

@thebandlab Aw, you're not even trying! All it takes is a Google Scholar search on the phrase "as a former professional magician" (with the enclosing quotes).

@ErinWestgate Even if you don't care that "females" is what women are called by incels, there's also the fact that "men" and "women" pack more data (sex, species, and developmental stage) into fewer letters than "males" and "females." Win/win.

@JennCVeilleux I use contractions everywhere I think I can: consent forms, commentaries, book chapters. I haven't seen them cross over yet to peer-reviewed empirical papers. I think it's no more logical than shunning white clothes after Labor Day, but it seems to be still in effect.
