Jacques Audiard saying that Spanish is a language of “modest” and “poor” countries… every day it becomes clearer that Emilia Pérez is a movie that comes entirely from a place of prejudice, ignorance, and barely hidden contempt.

@effoff1988 They seem to be! I have high expectations for it. The Sundance premiere kinda threw me off, but word of mouth seems to be very positive.

@effoff1988 Who do you have for BP rn? The prospect of EP winning is bleak, but I’m starting to feel it’s inevitable.

@effoff1988 I think it’s time to admit Netflix never planned to campaign Jolie. It was always going to put everything behind EP, which is a true shame.

@ElBlackPhillipp @HBO Mike White wrote Beatriz at Dinner, which was actually quite good in its political commentary and gave La Hayek her best role in years. I think a White Lotus season in Mexico would be interesting for sure.

6 years ago, a Mexican movie about the life of a woman rarely depicted on film was denied Best Picture in favor of a white savior story. Today, a French movie that makes a mockery of Mexico and its struggles positions itself as the favorite to win. Sad, disappointing #Oscars2025
