Preparing tenure talk, the one thing that I am the most proud of and will mention first is that the lab has been consistenly 50% first generation college students at all levels. My lab is a vehicle for #firstgen to get into science as succesfully as possible.

@ejustin46 @falsel_net My lab is now working on designing "better lenses" to see a sharper, less blurry image of past epidemics.

@AdamRutherford Hotspots of positive selection in vertebrate genomes. Co-occurrence of selection signals across primates and further is why I never believed in claims that sweeps were rare: they can’t possibly co-occur if they are so rare in the first place.

We found high levels of adaptive evolution in genes expressed in barrier tissue immune cells, and/or expressed early during immune responses --> host adaptation likely works best when it cuts infections short early, before pathogens reach high numbers.

@SashaGusevPosts I would validate the presence of selection with a method that is not as good at estimating selection parameters and allele trajectories, but better at testing sweep presence/absence with demonstrated robustness to BGS.

@SashaGusevPosts Many older papers on the topic are also likely obsolete because they relied on datasets with severe ascertainment bias.
