The first Ford Ranger is off the line at the Pretoria factory. Built for the world and South Africans by South Africans. Finally! It has been a long journey to get to this point. Bakkie fans, you will like this one!
Why don't people buy Lexus? Cars are generally very comfortable, beautifully finished, have all the bells and whistles, no optional extras, and and and... Yet the sales figures are on the low side. This is the Lexus UX, a crossover hybrid.
Nothing can prepare you for the sledgehammer hit of 900Nm as it slams you into the seat and the horizon starts to blur. It's a vicious assault on the mind, body and soul. Again? Yes!
Weird gear selector with the usual PNRD replaced by letters R123456. There's a third pedal too, next to the brake and gas. Controversial setup in 2023🤣
Flight attendant: Is there a doctor on this flight?
Dad: *nudging me* that should've been you
Me: Not now
Dad: Not asking for a car journalist, are they?
Me: Dad, there's a medical emergency happening right now.
Dad: Go see if they need Volkswagen Golf 8 Specs and Pricing.
Attention Car Content Creators. Want those photos to pop? In this thread, I'll share a basic editing work-flow, what apps I use and a few tips/tricks. It doesn't matter if you're shooting with a cellphone or a high-end camera, good quality photographs get engagement.
The Land Cruiser that went to private school. So much to unpack here, but I'll take the small win of being able to park it properly first time. Looking forward to the next few days of driving. Priced from R2.5 million.
The new
@FordSouthAfrica
Ranger launch is today. Looks like we're driving XLT spec and a report will be on
@CarsSouthAfrica
by Wednesday. Indicative pricing here
Nothing quite like the whoosh of a Bentley at full throttle. This is the Continental GT Speed with its huge 6.0 12 cylinder engine. Price? From R5 million

The Audi S8 is far too clever (and fast). Level 2 autonomy in traffic for those boring drives to work, where the car can accelerate, brake and steer on your behalf, but you still need to keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Then there's that ultra luxury cabin!
I've been in the motoring journalism game for over a decade and until today, one car has eluded me; the Porsche 911. What a way to tick that car off the bucket list than the 911 GT3 RS! Finally. What a sensational raw experience. Now I understand the hype.
My 🇿🇦SA-built BMW X3 meets another 🇿🇦SA-built form of transportation. The Red Devil aka the South African Railways Class 26 4-8-4 from 1981. She's looking great for her age!
Words can't fully describe the lunacy of the

A thread of one special and unique performance sedan. First up, a cold start:
I know BMW primarily sells its products in M Sport trim, but there's something classy and elegant about the rare Luxury trim. This wood dash in the new 330i is lovely.
Fortunate to get behind the wheel of the newly launched Audi RS4 Avant today. I'd forgotten how sublime the V6 turbo is! Happy to report it's also luxurious & comfortable in peak traffic. Wasn't too stoked with having to photograph a black car, but it really looks demonic.
I like the Kia Sportage so much, so I bought one. I guess that's the ultimate endorsement of a vehicle from a motoring journalist. Found it on
@CarsSouthAfrica
too 🥂
Today was a good day. A sneak preview of what's to come from
@FordSouthAfrica
& the locally-assembled Ranger. These are pre- pre-production vehicles called Tooling Trial units. Think of it as baking a cake to test your new oven before opening a bakery! 1st impressions are good👌
After the destructive aftermath of hurricane Idai in the town of Buzi (Mozambique) the South African Air Force (SAAF), successfully airlifted 167 victims to shelters in Beira.
Photographing the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S was a challenge (black cars are impossible to keep clean), but in that moment just after sunset, the lighting was just magical.
Back from two days in the Kruger Park driving the new Ford Everest. 7 seats, two diesel engines on offer, and a smart-looking cabin. Everything else in the segment suddenly feels very analogue. Some words for

here:
The new
@Jeep_SA
Gladiator has launched in SA. One petrol engine on offer, punching out 209kW and 347 Nm. Priced at R1.2 million and an absolute monster when it comes to offroading. SA's coolest bakkie? I think so.
The
@BMW_SA
X7 is here and after my drive this morning, I figured the next best place to be is in the back. Luxury galore. Thanks
@Sean_carnut_
for playing chauffeur.
This is a Mercedes-AMG C63 S & it belongs to
@MercedesBenz_SA
press fleet. Now AMG has a philosophy of one man, one engine. Basically, 1 person assembles the motor. Except, in this particular car's case: a 23-year old lady. How cool is that?

Sadly, the Volkswagen Golf 8 R pricing announcement scheduled for this week has been postponed until next week / after Easter. I have been told the price is well below a million. As a reference point, the Audi S3 is R906k, so I predict the 8R to be just under that.
At the launch of the updated
@AlfaRomeo_SA
Giulia and Stelvio today. Two derivatives per model. I'm in the 2.0 Veloce in a delicious shade of green. Surely one of the prettiest sedans on sale?
Mother-in-law got her new car today. The clincher was an excellent trade-in valuation and some extras thrown in free of charge proving that no matter how good the cars are, it comes down to dealership service.
Time to see what all the fuss is about: Haval H6. Essentially a 2.0 turbo all-wheel drive luxury SUV about the same size as a Tiguan/RAV4 with all the bells & whistles, including some great safety tech. Price? From R420k. This one: R480k. Equivalent Tiguan before options: R720k.
It's a pity diesel has fallen out of favour as the V8 TDI motor in the
@audisouthafrica
SQ8 is magical. 900 Nm from 1 250rpm is insanely strong, doesn't sound like a diesel, & it probably could have towed the Ever Given off the Suez Canal. Best part? 9L/100km is easily possible
At the SA debut of the brand-new Audi RS3. Hatchback and sedan option, both sharing a 2.5-litre 5-cylinder petrol motor. It sounds glorious under full throttle and the cabin is a lovely place to be. Specs+price here:
The BMW M340i is one seriously complete package: fast, luxurious, and brimming with tech. Wouldn't like to be in a V8 M3 when one of these comes along...
Spent the weekend with this little weapon called the BMW M235i Gran Coupe. Quirky styling aside, this is one fun little sedan. Makes a good noise out those pipes! Sports seats are gorgeous too.
The Audi RS6 Performance. Happy to plod along in heavy traffic one minute, and then chasing fighter jets the next. Mega! Officially the quickest Audi I've ever tested, violently lunging to 100 kph in 3.48 seconds... And I think it can go faster.
Sometimes I think I've seen everything there is to see in a car. Then I discovered something new: in-car meditation and yoga in the Mercedes-Benz S560.
The
@BMW_SA
630d GT. An oddity but I don't think I've ever been more comfortable or had as much cabin space. Could list the boot on AirBNB, it's that big. Deceptively quick too with a diesel six cylinder motor.
It has been a good long weekend getting to know the latest incarnation of Renault Megane RS. Its just as potent as the predecessor with a massive boost of practicality. New 1.8 engine has excellent shove and a great soundtrack too.
Porsche Cayman GT4. I had tremendous amounts of fun both driving this and photographing it. That 90 second window after the sun has dipped below the horizon is when the magic happens...
Today I spent some quality time behind the wheel of the Hyundai i30 N. What a fun and involving hot hatch! If this is chapter 1 in the Hyundai N story, I want to read the whole damn library. Can't wait to drive the similarly-priced Golf TCR and compare.
I don't understand how Range Rover managed to blend comfort and sportiness on 23-inch wheels so well, but the new RR Sport is an incredibly plush machine. Six-cylinder diesel engine is mega too. But, when you're paying R2.4 million, you expect excellence.
Out in the North West province driving the new
@OpelSA
Zafira Life. Two litre diesel auto, two levels of trim. Plenty spec and plenty space. From R750k.
Had a quick blast in the new BMW 128TI yesterday. Still trying to get my head around the concept of a front-wheel drive performance BMW, but it does many things right including some torque steer. The engine is strong and pulls hard, but not enough vrrpha. Game on...
Such a cutie, but sadly past its sell-by date. Too expensive (R580k), too small to be a family car + an infotainment screen that's smaller than a smartphone. The ride is jittery, vibrations at 100kph and the auto gearbox won't hold the car on a hill. I'm sad, coz look at it!
