The word “retainer” was a rough translation from the Japanese word used to describe a Samurai lord’s “helpers”. Cooks, gardeners, regular infantry, and anyone paid a stipend by the Samurai lord were considered “retainers”.
So yes, Yasuke was a retainer. He was paid a stipend

I’ve only watched the first 8 minutes and man… that was rough… TERRIBLE dialogue, shitty and slow fight choreography, dumb use of force powers, and Jedi Trinity saw the script and let herself be killed. Glad I pirated this and Disney gets no benefit from it lol.

Yasuke should’ve been used as a DLC character where you meet him and he helps you. He then ends up joining the assassins and returns to Africa where his help is needed. Bam now you have him set up for the next game based in Africa.

Goes way deeper than Wikipedia. I researched Yasuke back in 2013 when I was living in Japan. There was a coordinated change with Smithsonian, Brittanica, Wiki, and tons of articles from sites like Time and CNN after the “African Samurai” book came out in 2019. Shows and movies

The original post claims he achieved samurai status. He never did. If he did it would be taught in Japanese history, but they only briefly mention him in high schools in Japan. The same is taught there, he was a paid servant.

Was never given land. He was paid a stipend. All “helpers” working for a Samurai lord were given a stipend and a place to stay. If he was given Samurai status it would definitely have been written about. It wasn’t written because hit never happened.

Best thing would have been making Yasuke a badass non playable character that saves your ass and covers for you on many occasions. In history he basically disappears after Nobunaga dies, so Ubisoft could have used that as the beginning of his own AC game.

I lived in Japan for 8 years and nothing in their historical documents says he’s a Samurai. When you dig deep into this you find out that 2 guys wrote a book (African Samurai) and spun everything to make it sound like he received Samurai status. They cashed in on him by twisting

I’m sure her ancestor had training and followed the ways of bushido. Which is what makes a Samurai a Samurai. There’s nothing written in historical documents that say Yasuke received any form of training or practiced the ways of Bushido (the code Samurai lived by).

He wasn’t trying to distance himself from the issue. He was stating that the sales and distribution of the game doesn’t fall under his wheelhouse, so he’s naturally distanced from it. That’s like Sony selling Helldiver merchandise that ends up unable to ship to certain countries

Already read these articles years ago, and the “African Samurai” book. Entirely fiction other than Yasuke was an African man who traveled to Japan and worked as a paid servant. The rest is made up. Why? What’s going to sell better, African Samurai, or African paid servant?

SBI worked with God of War Ragnarok , Spider-Man 2, the upcoming Wolverine game, the upcoming Captain America/Black Panther game, and lots more. Other companies just like SBI are consulted with on many other AAA games. No one is boycotting all these games lol.

The game doesn’t have long term player engagement/retainability in mind. Warbonds are kind of pointless when you’re fighting the same enemies other than 3 slightly different enemies they threw in. They need to shake things up because the longer the wait, the more disconnected

Diving through Japanese posts is very interesting. It’s definitely mixed but the majority I’ve seen aren’t very supportive of Ubisoft’s decision. More controversial for the West but Japanese people are calling it out as well lol.
