Bloober Team's CEO was unsatisfied with the recent combat trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remake: "Our partner [Konami] is entirely responsible for this."
He criticized the animations, visuals, and stated that it failed to capture the spirit of the game.
Return to Silent Hill has officially wrapped filming in Munich, Germany. The following set footage was shared by actor Jermey Irvine (James Sunderland).
Series producer Motoi Okamoto discusses some of the changes in Bloober Team's SILENT HILL 2 remake in an interview with Famitsu.
The action elements have been toned down since the combat trailer, the BH Nurse's parkour animation has been removed, and gauges/icons are optional.

There's a trend of anti-intellectualism towards the original to come out of SH2R discourse that's frankly obnoxious.
Gamers will call characterization, symbolism, tone, and even the style of horror "nitpicks," then spend every conversation complaining about combat.
@ecto_fun
This was the film that introduced me to Takashi Miike. Another great one is "Audition," which starts off as a light-hearted romantic comedy and transforms into a twisted horror film about halfway through.
An Easter Egg in the combat trailer for Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2. The logo of Convenience Store 8 from the first game can be seen on the shopping cart in Woodside Apartments.
Additionally, the opening scene has been reworked and James is no longer older than his original 29-year-old counterpart.

The idea that James Sunderland was "emotionless" due to technical limitations is a myth anyways. He was fatigued, dissociated, and repressing the memory of killing his wife.
Anyone pushing that is arguing with the developers.
@BDisgusting
David Gordon Green is the wrong guy to direct an Exorcist trilogy. I expect the first film to be a middling fan servicey retread of the original, followed by two weird sequels that thematically contradict each other.
A common motif between Silent Hill 2-3 is the use of nurses with red squares on their mouths. This represents the shared theme of "shrieking insanity."
• In SH2, it symbolizes Mary's emotions and is connected to the nine red squares.
• In SH3, it symbolizes Alessa's emotions.
@bobvids
The Halo of the Sun also made an appearance in the initial leaks, which incidentally, served as the loading icon in P.T.
O.D. won't be connected to Silent Hill, but Kojima isn't shying away from homages.
For those who don't understand the connection between Silent Hill 1 and 2, essentially:
• The town is host to an ancient spiritual power, tied to dead bodies in Toluca Lake.
• This power has been impacted in negative ways during dark periods of the town's history.
• In SH1,

Doesn't really prove anything. A bunch of people who had never played The Last of Us Part II review bombed it within minutes of its release, and it went on to be acclaimed, top selling, and award winning. Anyone can vote on IMDB.
@shill_symbolism
That's not really true. Most of the team carried over for each installment, with the core SH1 team (except Toyama, Naoko Sato, and Takahashi) returning for SH2 and SH3/4 developed simultaneously.
Majority of the core staff returned for SH3, and SH4 was mostly SH1 & SH2 devs.
@ResiEvilCentral
@Konami
Seriously, I'd prefer that over remakes. If they re-released just the original four games with the PS2 versions of SH2 and SH3, I would be satisfied.
In Silent Hill 4: The Room, some of the objects Walter Sullivan uses to complete the Holy Assumption are the same objects that James Sunderland collects for the Rebirth Ending of SH2.
@danksilenthill
Agreed. Silent Hill 2 is a work of cinematic art that's near impossible to remake, but I at least expected this to be a polished survival horror game (visually). This just looks like Bloober Team is in over their head.
In an interview with Famitsu, series producer Motoi Okamoto discusses Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 remake and The Short Message, explaining the decision to use first person perspective, the lack of combat, its origins as a RND project, and more.
Trailers for the upcoming

trailers are ready, according to
@AestheticGamer1
. On Discord, he said the following:
• SH2R has great art direction
• Townfall looks very interesting
• Ascension looks graphically great
• Doesn't know if The Short Message is cancelled.
Takayoshi Sato, the cutscene animator of the original Silent Hill 2, discusses the facial animations in a 2001 documentary:
"If you open your mouth, muscles tighten. Motion capture cannot capture it. But if I make them in front of a mirror, I can notice it and I can capture it."
I don't think the Steam banner indicates that we'll see Silent Hill 2 remake at TGS.
The same banner appears on older games, such as Yu-Gi-Oh and TMNT Collection, but is absent from titles that are confirmed for TGS (such as Metal Gear Solid Master Collection).
The Silent Hill (2006) film novelization has been translated into English by Wyntr_Lysenker. It is the first of a four-part effort to bring the untranslated Japanese novels into English.
In Silent Hill 2, the Bubble Head Nurse stands roughly the same height as Mary. They are suffocated by a vinyl mask filled with white liquid and thinned blood, which they attempt to shake from their head.
Originally, the mask was planned to pop like a balloon when shot.
According to FFF Bayern (a German financing studio), James Sunderland will be played by Jeremy Irvine in Return to Silent Hill.
The following synopsis also leaked, which refers to his wife as "Mary Crane" (a departure from the game).

@RuleTimeSpace
I'd like to see the original concept of Dino Crisis 3 made into a game. The pure chaos and 28 Days Later atmosphere of dinosaurs in the city would make for a suspenseful action-horror game.
Dino Crisis 1-2 on the RE Engine would also be neat.
@FreddyInSpace
"This isn't the end of a Shakespearian tragedy. I'm old and I'm satisfied. You were my purpose."
They deviated more from Bill & Frank's backstory from the game than I expected and I'm really glad they did.
Takayoshi Sato wrote an unused story for Silent Hill 3, leaving the company due to a payment dispute with Konami.
"What I was thinking was similar genre, different game. I think I better keep it secret. Who knows there may be a chance to realize the idea some day?"
@JammerJammy
It really depends on what you mean by "shit gameplay." In Silent Hill 2, the gameplay serves the story and not the other way around.
If James moves like a video game character instead of an average dude, that's definitely a tonal issue.

comics exclusively on cell phones in Japan, titled Cage of Cradle (23 Chapters) and Double Under Dusk (20 chapters). They were written by Hiroyuki Owaku with art by Masahiro Ito.
Cage of Cradle acted as a prequel to the first
In Silent Hill 3, the "Brookhaven Nurse" (colloquial title) is intended to be Lisa Garland suffering eternally in the Otherworld.
Masahiro Ito wanted to design a new model for the character, but due to time constraints, had to retool assets from the short film "Fukuro."
Following Silent Hill 3-4, Team Silent worked on different cancelled projects at Konami.
• Masahiro Ito, Hiroyuki Owaku, and Norihito Hatakeda developed a GTA-style game between 2003-2006.
• Akihiro Imamura, Akira Yamaoka, and Masashi Tsuboyama developed SH5 between 2004-2007.
Gecco Corp has released their 2023 Misty Day - Red Pyramid Thing statue. Supervised by Masahiro Ito and sculpted by Shinya Akao, it captures details that went previously unseen in the PS2 model and serves as the most authentic build of Pyramid Head to date. 🧵

I have no love for JK Rowling, but the way this game was protested was a bad strategy. Creating a taboo around a piece of media (esp. major sites loudly announcing their discussion bans) only creates publicity, and shaming people over an iconic multi-billion $ IP is bad optics.
@SH_Collection82
I'm actually not enthusiastic about a remake of SH2 (which only needs a port/remaster IMO).
But if they included Double Under Dusk and artwork/BTS notes from Masahiro Ito, I would get the Collector's Edition.
My current prediction for Silent Hill 2 remake is that the marketing campaign starts in October for a February 2024 release, potentially launched by another Transmission. It was likely intended to be a 2023 game that was delayed to 2024.
The reasons are as follows...🧵
Two new Silent Hill charms have been added to Dead by Daylight.
· "Dog Rules" is obtained by owning James Sunderland or multiple Silent Hill skins.
·"UFO" is currently unobtainable and possibly linked to the upcoming Cheryl Mason skin.
In 2018, Konami reached out to HexaDrive about potentially porting the original Silent Hill games. The studio countered by pitching a Silent Hill 2 remake, a project that eventually went to Bloober Team, and this opened the door for their later work on The Short Message.
(1/2) Concept art for Heather Mason in Silent Hill 3. Prior to her final design, a range of different looks were considered. Initial designs by Shingo Yuri depicted jeans and long pants, but female staff members insisted on a more feminine appearance with a skirt and curly hair.
@DomTheBombYT
More infected and the story having more room to breath (Part II stretched across multiple seasons) is a great start. Bella Ramsay is going to nail the rage scenes.
I don't know if it will be in Season 2, but the Rat King...
Keiichiro Toyama has an interesting conception of Harry Mason. While discussing the influence of David Lynch on Silent Hill (1999) in an interview, he described the character as "actively enjoy[ing] the hunt and the act of killing."
Alessa experiences an endless nightmare during her coma, caused by a god amplifying and feeding on her negative thoughts.
• Because of her psychic powers, her nightmare is inadvertently projected onto the town, which is transfigured by her subconscious thoughts.
• Due to
@bobvids
Yeah, Bloober Team said that they're going for "full action" and "mass market" appeal, and specifically listed Naughty Dog and Ninja Theory as examples.
Reading that as just "We're adding combat" is being extremely charitable.
@AestheticGamer1
They better not cancel Masahiro Ito's cherry blossom game. That's legitimately the one I was most interested in (followed by Silent Hill f and Townfall) -_-
@AestheticGamer1
I'm honestly more interested in Cage of Cradle and Double Under Dusk. Team Silent's last work on the franchise and it's basically lost media.

According to Masahiro Ito, the right side of Pyramid Head's helmet and the bag on his neck are made of the same substance, which is similar to a dried canvas.

Now that Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Suikoden are getting collections, Konami should complete the set and remaster Silent Hill 1-4. The Silent Hill 2 reboot won't be able to compete the original anyhow.
In Silent Hill, the appearance of the cult's god is shaped by the minds of those who summon it.
• In SH1, the Incubus is how Dahlia imagines God.
• The Incubator is how Alessa imagines God.
• In SH3, the god vaguely resembles Alessa due to Claudia's thoughts.
