A birthday wish come true! Today I visited the full scale reconstruction of the colossal Constantine statue from the Capitoline Museums and Basilica of Constantine (Maxentius). There’s nothing like a real-life reconstruction experience 👏👏

Beautiful panorama of Herculaneum. Looking down into the city, standing atop the pyroclastic flow (20 meters deep) that buried this town of circa 5000 inhabitants

I love the Egyptian museum so much that I went back for a second visit on my last day in Egypt, to walk through every single room! Will appear in new YouTube videos later this year.
What nice about Venice this time of year??Enjoying an uncrowded San Marco terrace with the copies of the horses brought back from Constantinople in the 13C

This is the largest amphitheater in North Africa. And so well preserved! I had a great day filming here and look forward to a return visit!
Ramesses II’s tomb (exterior) at Abu Simbel. 4 statues of the pharaoh are 20 meters high! Amazing heritage preservation project saved the monument by moving it to a higher elevation during the construction of the Aswan Dam.

Winter solstice December 21st is upon us! The Roman calendar celebrated it on December 25… here is what the inside of the Pantheon 🏛️ looks like this time of year

Mausoleum of Augustus is 2 open in 2020, it has been reported. I pass by 5 X a week & have seen no real activity in the past 8 months, until today. Workman wheelbarrowing, a new crane (in background) which is working! Seems that the site is now active!

Glorious Santa Maria Maggiore! Located here on the Esquiline due to the miracle of the August 5 snowfall in 352… This structure dates back to 434- its core intact, though undergoing several rounds of restoration.
Ever take a good hard look at the bronze doors of Pantheon? The doors are probably from somewhere else, retrofitted for Pantheon. Note relatively small size of the doors compared 2 the more massive marble threshold that indicates original door height

Beautiful flight of Rome’s storni (starlings) that winter in the capital - they arrived last week. 4 million of them- they prefer the trees of Lungotevere - their droppings cause a lot of problems, I (a scooter driver) assure you!
Today- to the Baths of Caracalla - with

Mithraeum inserted into an unknown public building in 3C AD.
