'If we fail, at least let our children and our children’s children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done.'

When the hundreds of thousands of Russians that like to call themselves soldiers return home, completely void of whatever little sensitivity was there to begin with and very much used to obliterating cities and killing innocent people for $3000 a month, Russia won't get them again to work in factories for $300 a month and refrain from doing what they've been taught to do and, by the looks of it, very much enjoy doing. When this war ends, and someday it will, much like it happened to almost every other country that fine-tuned their entire society and economy to fight a war and then suddenly found themselves without a war to fight, there will be a blow-back. Russians will feel it in their streets, will feel it in their pockets and they will feel it in their homes, with the only thing to show for it being a little bit more land to live in misery in, as if Russia's didn't have enough land or misery as it was. When Putin and his circle of power dies, and they will no matter how excellent of a medical care they afford, Russians will discover why handing all power to a handful of men, unbound by any rules or checks, is something that the rest of us fought so hard to rid ourselves of, a discovery probably followed by the realization that they alone, all of people, can't stand up for something worth standing up for. When this nightmare ends for Ukraine and just as whatever is left of the free world helps it rebuild itself, the real nightmare will start for Russia, and they've made bloody sure there will be nobody able or one bit willing to save them from themselves this time.

@georgia_pirate Simion just dropped out and Sosoaca is likely to either drop out as well or get banned from running (she was last time).

@ManiamAkash Nicusor Dan is actually a pretty great option. While being less than the ideal solution to put it mildly, Crin Antonescu is also very much pro-EU/NATO (and for what is worth, a fantastic public speaker).

@ManiamAkash Nicusor Dan is the founder and former leader of the party now led by Lasconi, so a lot of her previous supporters are now going that way. She did also make quite a number of less than ideal statement lately, so there's also that.

@Ry5i0 Based on this, he wins round 1 and either narrowly or overwhelmingly wins round 2, depending on who it is that he gets to run against. Nevertheless, the elections are in May, there's plenty of time for things to change and he will inevitable erode somewhat by then.

@jjsalmo The majority of his voters don't sympathies with Russia, problem is despite irrefutable evidence and as absurd as that sounds, they don't see him as a pro-Russian candidate and nobody seems capable to convince them of it.

@BErickson_BIO Simion just dropped out and Sosoaca might possibly drop out as well, but unfortunately both of these are far right candidates who's votes will go to Georgescu.

Keep an eye on Serbia and Slovakia this Friday.
The protesting students in Serbia are calling for a general strike to be held on Friday. They recognize the fact that striking in the private sector is not possible in practice, which is why they call for every citizen to do what he or she can - take a day off or sick leave, making each individual act an act of protest and civil disobedience. Meanwhile, state elementary and highs schools in urban areas of Serbia are continuing their strike. For example, 3 out of 4 classical high schools in the city of Nis are on strike, while most of the parents did not send their children to school in the fourth case. Parents, with their children, as well as former students of various schools in urban areas are also gathering in the school courtyards to extend their support to the teachers, who are under threat of dismissal by the regime.

@poelincad Having one less far-right candidate to chip away from Georgescu's votes puts extra pressure on authorities to ban the lunatic from running. Simion is playing 3D chess here, hoping to get Georgescu banned while simultaneously making sure to get his electorate if that happens.

@Mupekus Now I don't know about you, but I've never ever found myself nazi saluting by mistake. Assuming he was indeed "sending love" here (which is probably true), how sane must one be to choose that gesture to convey it, in a very official setting no less?
