Happy to see the Governor’s proposed FY 2025-26 budget reflect a strong commitment to both education and fiscal responsibility. With a total budget of $115.6 billion, over $3 billion less than the current year. Florida continues to lead with smart, efficient spending. The $50.2 billion in General Revenue, a $383.4 million increase from last year, ensures critical investments in our students, teachers, and schools. Plus, with $14.6 billion in reserves (over 12.5% of the total budget), Florida is well-prepared for the future while prioritizing educational excellence today. @GovRonDeSantis

Yesterday, Alyssa Foganholi and I had the pleasure of visiting Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale, and we were truly inspired by what we saw. A huge thank you to Dr. Joel Satterly and the leadership team for hosting us and showcasing the incredible work being done on campus. From the emphasis on security to the impeccable upkeep of the facilities, it’s clear that Westminster Academy takes pride in fostering a safe and welcoming environment for its students. The school’s deep tradition and culture, coupled with its impressive sports programs and commitment to excellence, is truly remarkable. What stood out most was seeing alumni returning as educators and school leaders, a powerful testament to the lasting impact this school has on its community. Their dedication to investing in the next generation speaks volumes about the kind of legacy Westminster Academy is building. Visits like this reaffirm why school choice is so critical here in Florida. As leaders in this movement, we are empowering families to make the best decisions for their children’s education. Every student deserves access to a learning environment that meets their unique needs and helps them thrive. Florida is a leader in education for a reason, and together, we can continue paving the way for greater opportunities and brighter futures. Thank you again, Westminster Academy, for reminding us what’s possible when families, schools, and communities work hand-in-hand for student success! @wacad @EducationFL

I think it’s important to consider the context behind the decline in Florida’s SAT scores before drawing conclusions. Several factors likely contributed to this trend: 1. Increased Participation: Florida has worked to expand access to the SAT, encouraging more students to take the test. As participation increases, it often includes a broader range of students, including those who may not have traditionally taken the exam. While this lowers the average score, it reflects progress in offering equal opportunities for higher education. 2. Shift in Focus: Florida has prioritized career and technical education alongside traditional college prep pathways. This means many students are focusing on trade certifications or career readiness rather than standardized test performance, diversifying post graduation success metrics. 3. National Trends: The decline in SAT scores is not unique to Florida. Nationwide trends show lower performance due to disruptions from the pandemic, learning loss, and evolving test preparation strategies. 4. Impact of COVID-19: The students testing in 2024 were freshmen or sophomores when the pandemic hit. This group faced significant challenges, including remote learning, reduced access to teachers, and a lack of consistent academic support during a critical time for foundational skill building. These disruptions affected students nationwide, not just in Florida. While SAT scores are one measure, Florida’s record-breaking graduation rate, robust school choice options, and focus on preparing students for all paths… college, career, or military highlight the broader successes of our education system. It’s important to celebrate the progress while addressing challenges with solutions that serve every student’s future. 🦏

Grateful for Governor DeSantis’ leadership in holding Big Pharma accountable and prioritizing transparency for the American people. Taxpayer dollars should fund truth and safety…not deception. The status quo must change, and Floridians deserve a government that fights for them, not corporate interests. @GovRonDeSantis
This morning, the Twenty-Second Statewide Grand Jury released its final report. This Grand Jury was tasked with investigating vaccine manufacturers and their production process for vaccines following the COVID-19 pandemic. While we are still reading through the report and its recommendations, it details that, through deception and taking “advantage of scientific journal infrastructure” to hide adverse events from the public, Big Pharma engaged in a "pattern of deceptive and obfuscatory behavior." Big Pharma brought in billions of dollars in profit, and the federal government amplified bogus “studies,” all while suppressing any opposition that went against their preferred narrative. Instead of federal agencies acting as a backstop to bad incentives, they worked closely with Big Pharma as they cut corners, even becoming unpaid advertisers on their behalf. The Grand Jury also details the frustrations of many, stating, "these sponsors have taken in billions of taxpayer dollars for creating and selling their vaccines; they cannot be sued if something goes wrong with them; they have access to critical information about deaths related to a side effect of their products; and the public does not have access to that information.” The Grand Jury has made a number of recommendations that should be followed. The status quo cannot continue. The American people deserve transparency on how Big Pharma is using their federal tax dollars, and they deserve regulating entities that operate as watchdogs, not cheerleaders.
