Today the tragic news was revealed, the mangaka, Buichi Terasawa, passed away on September 8 at the age of 68.
A pioneer of digital art and a great inspiration for many mangakas of the 80's and 90's.
Rest In Peace Buichi Terasawa (1955-2023).

At first Monkey Punch was not convinced by the idea of Lupin III becoming an anime, but they convinced him to watch the Pilot Film first. The result fascinated him and he decided to leave it in his hands.

I don't know how unpopular this is but, this the perfect "Miyazaki Lupin".
Albatross has everything Cagliostro lacked:
•Lupin and Fujiko actually looks like Lupin and Fujiko
•The characters acts as usual (horny and stupid)
•Fujiko doesn't have that blond hair (THANK GOD)

Only 6 episodes were produced and only the first had the animation completed.
Due to copyright claims, the project was canceled and production split into 2 sides. On the part of Japan, it became Part 3 and on the part of America and Europe, it ended up becoming "INSPECTOR GADGET"
This is going to be a bit long.
Lupin VIII was an early 80s project that was about the adventures in a more familiar tone of Lupin and his gang (now in the future). This would be a collaboration between TMS and DIC, with the aim of making Lupin known in the rest of the world.

In the early 2000s, exclusive comics for and made by Italy were published, Lupin III Millennium were comics published by Kappa and supervised by Monkey Punch. Each of these had original stories that handled their own art-style.

There is a little story about that when Goro Naya saw the photo of Yasuo Yamada at the funeral, he said in Zenigata's voice:
"If you're dead, who will I chase now?"
This was the last film in which we can hear the voice of the great master Yasuo Yamada, who after recording the trailer for Farewell To Nostradamus, died of a brain hemorrhage at the age of 62.

At Monkey Punch's funeral, Kan'ichi Kurita (Current voice of lupin) mentioned that when he had to take role of Lupin III as a replacement for the late Yasuo Yamada, he was harshly criticized, but he appreciated "Be protected by the Master and continue".

The case of the english dub is something really curious, it started with the second series, it was not completed and the scripts were modified to add more to the absurd humor. The cast is perfect and everyone (Except for Dan Lorge: Zenigata) continues to work with the franchise.
