Absolutely superb "GO ON" from the Arsenal fans here
A small one when Vieira passes to Jesus and then a booming choral effort after Jesus sits the defender down
One of my favorite football sounds
Good old Sven. Still picking Lampard and Gerrard, still shoving Scholes out wide, still taking 16-year-old Theo to the World Cup, still inviting the WAGS to Baden-Baden, and now he's playing Nedved at full-back. The mad old bastard.
For reasons I can't explain, I'm watching the
#UELfinal
in a cinema room and someone has stuck the subtitles on
Interesting interpretation of Ian Darke's commentary...
One of the more peculiar highlights of our time in St Petersburg thus far was stumbling across a bar dedicated to the Dylan Moran sitcom 'Black Books'. Wonderful.
Shearer absolutely spot on regarding VAR on MOTD. The fact there is a pitchside monitor at every Premier League game and it hasn't been used once in 9 weeks is nothing short of a farce.
Absolutely delighted to confirm that I'll be a part of the relaunched
@FootballCliches

We're back on Tuesday, but you'll need to subscribe to the new feed ⬇️

Ahead of our return on Tuesday, delighted to announce that 𝗙𝗢𝗢𝗧𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗦 has signed for

TRAILER ⬇️
Just had a ridiculous exchange with a member of staff in a Sam Smith's pub who was enforcing their absurd no phones policy
I was on my own queuing for a drink, just looking at my phone as I waited, when I was told to put it away as I was breaking the rules of the pub (1/4)
When Watford came calling ✅
Great challenge ✅
Massive club (!) ✅
Great fan base ✅
Played there many times ✅
They're always in the mix ✅
Want to get to promised land ✅
I'm here to get back in the big time✅
Absolute masterclass in new club cliches from Tom Ince 👌
Having dinner in a nice restaraunt in Porto and a load of shouting England fans have just marched by, one of whom saw fit to bang on the window. What's the point? Why do these people behave like this? A minor incident in the grand scale of things but nonetheless pathetic.
My last appearance on the
@FootballCliches
pod 💔
It's been an amazing thing to be a part of and I will miss it so much
Pleased to go out on an episode crammed with opportunities for me to be overly literal
Today is my last day at The Athletic
Fiercely proud of what we created and grateful to have worked alongside so many brilliant people
I don't know what's next yet but I look forward to new challenges, wherever they may be
DMs are open, for my sins
Deeply annoying scheduling from UEFA tonight
Portugal v Slovenia has no business being the 8pm kickoff
France v Belgium robbed of its gravitas by kicking off now
He told me he'd called the police three times recently. He didn't take kindly to my suggestion that he should stop wasting police time
I eventually relented, but won't be drinking there again
BTW, they have no problem with people using their phones to pay for drinks 🤷
Went on a walk past the site of the old Boleyn Ground today
Where once stood a proud stadium now stands flats that look like all the other flats in London
The supporters club is the only clue that remains, a bit sad
This is the moment Adam Hurrey discovered, after an unexpected knock at the front door, that he was locked inside of his in-laws' spare room while recording the latest
@FootballCliches
pod
Did it affect his performance? You can be the judge of that tomorrow morning 🔒
“If he doesn’t know what a Nazi salute is, he’s never heard of the Holocaust, or the thousands who died for his future.”
“Go to Auschwitz for an understanding of the horrors millions went through.”
@talkSPORTDrive
on Wayne Hennessey not knowing about the Nazis 👏👏
When this bloke's comments about Sven resurfaced recently I thought he'd long since disappeared, but no, here he is still peddling the same old pathetic nonsense 😴
Lee Carsley should be sacked by the FA today. His refusal to sing the national anthem is a betrayal and he's not fit to be England manager, writes JEFF POWELL
One of my favourite Watford goals
At the time my dad was desperately ill with cancer
I'll never forget the post-match phone call, I could hear in his voice that he'd been briefly lifted from the pain
A month later he was gone. In his mind we're still 8th in the Premier League
This day last year I attended what turned out to be the last match I'd ever go to with my dad. That day Gomes was the hero, a year later he's still the hero. Dad would've loved it today. Thank you,
#watfordfc
.
After almost 9 years, last Wednesday was my final day at
@talkSPORT
I'm eternally grateful for the opportunities I've been afforded
It's a place like no other, I'll miss the brilliant people & cherish the memories
A day with
@laura_woodsy
and Frank wasn't a bad way to go out
Here's the diagram we referenced on
@FootballCliches
pod when debunking the claims that Dan James' goal for Leeds the other night was from "the tightest of angles"
Listen ⬇️
Last night was the perfect finale
Thank you so much to everyone who came, amazing to see so many of you, we don't take it for granted
The whole tour has been such an adventure. We'll do it all again next year.
@FootballCliches
forever 🙏🍻❤️
A mere 139 days after the last full episode, 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝘾𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨 𝙋𝙤𝙙𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙩 is back!
I particularly enjoyed the talk of what constitutes the threshold for "chipping in"
We're on a new feed so please listen & subscribe here ⬇️🙏
Taking a momentary break from the doom to rejoice in the fact that last night was my mum's first ever Watford game, despite living a stone's throw from the stadium for 40 years!
Pleased to report she was undeterred by the on-pitch shambles and is keen to go again
💛
The
@FootballCliches
tour got off to an absolute flyer in Glasgow last night, huge thanks to all who came
Brilliant to meet the Oran Mor faithful afterwards 🍻
We roll on to
@MancAcademy
tonight
Putting my money where my mouth is
If you haven't listened to the latest

pod you'll have absolutely no idea what I'm on about

Never forget working on the talkSPORT breakfast show and upon hearing the news Alan Brazil spent 4 hours telling the audience "Sad news this maarning, Tony Soprano has passed away"
As the rain hammered down at the Vic today, there was GT, right out amongst it in solidarity with the
#watfordfc
supporters. He wouldn't have had it any other way. Brilliant win.
Only just coming back down to earth after last night's
@FootballCliches
live show. A ludicrous evening.
Thank you so much to everyone who turned up on a wet Tuesday night in Dalston, great to meet loads of people afterwards too
Bring on Manchester & Dublin next week
This one's for the heads out there...
To mark the 350th episode of the
@FootballCliches
pod, I've spent way too much time making a Sporcle quiz of everyone to have ever appeared on the pod
Post your scores and times below. Enjoy!
Today was another amazing chapter in the life of being a Watford supporter but of all the things that happened I am so pleased for Joao Pedro
You could see the wave of emotion that hit him after he scored 😢
Big love
@DeJesusofiicial
, you did your dad proud 💛
The NHS cured my mum's breast cancer, and twice gave her a new heart valve. It also made the last 3 months of my dad's life as pain-free as possible. It's a brilliant, special, important thing. We ALL need it, so let's not let it die.
#HappyBirthdayNHS
After last week's
@FootballCliches
pod I thought I'd pay a visit to see the only remaining stanchions in league football
Terrific work from
@leytonorientfc
😍
Sad that he's going to go out like this. I'll have no time for anyone dragging up any tiresome takes about his career record, the Scottish/British thing, or his personality. He should be remembered and celebrated as a great champion.
Blown away by the reaction to the Football Clichés live show last night
Thanks to everyone who came and great to meet so many people afterwards
Superb performance from
@FootballCliches
and
@CDEccleshare
👏👏👏
Thanks to
@GoalsAloudFest
for putting it on. We will go again.
Recording the first episode of the new
@FootballCliches
era shortly
It'll be released tomorrow morning and if you haven't subscribed to the new feed yet you can do so here ⬇️
Sometimes I think to myself "I wonder if we'll ever run out of material for the
@FootballCliches
pod"
But then we end up spending five minutes discussing whether you can smell a ghost and it's all fine 👻

The good people who reside in and around Manchester were on superb form last night
Great show, great crowd, great pints
Thanks to everyone who came, we really appreciate it 🙏
We head to Birmingham for our Midlands debut tonight
Manchester United head to Cardiff City on Saturday with a manager whose only previous managerial experience in the Premier League is relegating Cardiff City. Football, bloody hell.
Oh, and the game is live & exclusive on
@talkSPORT
What a night in Birmingham. The first leg of the
@FootballCliches
tour ended in epic fashion
Questionable choice of post-show pub by us but you turned out in force and we had an absolute riot
Huge thanks to everyone for spending your Friday night with us 🍻 🙏
Bang on from Wrighty. I dared to delve into the replies to the story earlier and it's just a sea of shit.
Le Tissier, Nicholas and Thompson have had decades in the chair, they've done well, all shows evolve, anyone complaining needs to get over it and move on.
A moving but also uplifting day saying farewell to Nigel Pearson in his beloved Wombourne today
Church was overflowing, and so was the Guinness afterwards. Everyone in attendance did him proud.
A fitting send off for a great man
Rest easy, Nige 🍺
I mean, quite apart from how rude, hostile & unwelcoming it is, there are loads of legitimate reasons why someone might need to use their phone quickly without leaving the pub
Family/work emergency for starters, but it's also just a shit way to treat paying customers (2/4)
Moscow taxi driver just used his translator app to tell me to move seats but it came out as
"there will be more revenge in the back"
#WorldCup
#TSWorldCup
I could understand if it was suggested, a polite way to encourage conversation, that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing
But the militant way it's enforced is ridiculous. When I refused to put my phone away I was threatened with being thrown out and the police being called (3/4)
Thanks so much to everyone who came to the
@FootballCliches
quiz tonight!
Huge apologies for massively underestimating how many of you would turn up. Hopefully everyone had fun all the same 🙏
Congratulations to the winners "Bocat Goes Down In The Box" 👏
On the sleeper back to Moscow. Sharing a cabin with two lads from Kazakhstan and an Argentina-supporting-American. Within seconds of meeting me all three asked "is it coming home?"
#WorldCup
#ItsComingHome
#TSWorldCup
Leeds, Leeds, Leeds, you were brilliant
We said we'd be back to finish our business, and HOW!
Probably the best show we've ever done, thanks so much to everyone who came 🙏
Genuinely insane scenes with post-show Happy Hunting Grounds, the pub brought to a standstill!
Been working very hard on these and delighted that the shows are now out there for the world to enjoy
And this is just the beginning, 11 shows right now but loads more in the pipeline
Fill ya boots!
(If anyone needs me, I'm going back to bed 🥱)

A Monday night in Dalston and the
@FootballCliches
ultras turned up in their droves. Listen, fair play.
Really grateful to everyone who came and great to meet people afterwards
Particularly enjoyed Stoke at Cardiff City Stadium in the post-show HHG
Dublin delivered the goods once again
Such a great crowd and the post-show Guinness really did flow. Loved it.
Thanks to everyone who came, especially those of you who traveled from far and wide
🙏🇮🇪
In November 2007, after England failed to qualify for Euro 2008, I returned home after a night of sorrows drowning and posted this on facebook...
You can listen to me relive the experience on the latest England Pod with
@NTT20Pod
On today's
@FootballCliches
pod we analyse the back-of-net ball-retrieving acceptability of Australia's first five goals in their 6-5 comeback win over Zambia
Here's Adam's handy matrix to guide you through...

One of the most shambolic, embarrassing evenings at the Vic I can remember
And now we finally find ourselves in the bottom three where we belong and where we will almost certainly stay
Sacked in the morning? Sacked before sunrise I should imagine
#watfordfc
Absolutely massive thanks to all who came to the
@FootballCliches
live show in Leeds last night
An incredibly generous audience who stuck with us through some frankly ludicrous tech issues
Always brilliant to meet people after the show 🍻
We'll be back to finish our business
A game I shall always cherish as it ended up being the last one I attended with my dad
Savour the moments with loved ones, you never know how many you have left
💛
No shame in losing to Liverpool, no shame in being thrashed by them either really, but that is the easiest game they will have all season.
Pitiful levels of aggression and desire from minute one. We looked petrified. Wasted the ball any time it came near us.
Dismal
#watfordfc
@FootballCliches
Magnate is very industrial - shipping magnate or steel magnate.
Tycoon is some sort of vague thing like telecomms or software, maybe property.
Mogul is media, music or fashion, glamorous but not necessarily super rich.
More fool those of us who thought anything would be different. Gino will never change. Duxbury has been completely undermined and should resign.
#watfordfc
Absolutely crushed. Really believed we were going to get it done this time.
That was a difficult post-match pod but it'll be with you soon.
It's still all England, all summer.
Sadly today's
@FootballCliches
pod was recorded before news broke that a tube line is being named after Gary Weaver's services to flag-based EFL commentary
Plenty to enjoy nonetheless
Listen ⬇️
Nah, listen, just buzzing to be involved really...
Great to link up with
@AliMaxwell_
and
@GeorgeElek
to follow England at the Euros 🙏
First episode of what will hopefully be a long and glorious summer ⬇️
NTT20: The England Pod🏴
We are delighted to introduce a new podcast which will run throughout the summer, unashamedly supporting England out in Germany for Euro 2024.

A tremendous honour to have been asked to write the
#watfordfc
season preview for
@FourFourTwo
.
There's tons of great stuff in the latest issue and it's out now!
At the very least you'll want to buy it so you can disagree with where they've predicted your team will finish.
As we trudge back up Occupation Road for the final time this season, my overriding emotion is one of relief that I'll never have to watch this team again
If they were a Sunday league team you'd fold them after that. Laughable.
Better times hopefully ahead 🐝
#WatfordFC
Remember when we looked that "winnable run of home games" and thought everything might somehow be ok?
Lost the first three in hilariously inept fashion, and will very likely lose the other two now (Everton & Leicester)
What an absolutely fucking dismal season
#WatfordFC
48 days until the Championship season commences. The scale of the task facing Gino Pozzo, Scott Duxbury, Filippo Giraldi and all at
#watfordfc
is absolutely enormous. Gulp.
Long story but ended up watching the match in a random pub in York, thankfully ran into the North Yorkshire Hornets. Unbelievable scenes. Come on Yoooooooouuuu Oooorrrrrnnnnss!
#WatfordFC
Tomorrow we embark on the biggest
@FootballCliches
live tour yet
Starting in Glasgow, taking in Manchester, Bham, Dublin, Leeds, Bristol, before finishing in London at this place 🤯
Looking forward to seeing everyone
A few tickets still available here:
